RHINO-X the Annual Fest at Charlie & Rhonda's place. A good time and a huge crowd owing to 4 van loads of West Point cadets... This was my first run back after a couple weeks off for the hamstring pull. The good news is that no twinges or anything so I shall call myself healed, but will take it easy for a few runs.

Down side to this run is that Hayden couldn't find his headlamp, so I gave him mine and I just ran with my backup (handheld). Fine for the first couple control, though every time I shined it at the map the reflection blinded me. But upon leaving the 2nd control, the light suddenly dimmed to its minimum brightness setting (ie not much). Turned it back to a brighter more useful level and within 10 seconds it dropped again. Damn, battery dying.

Gave a brief consideration to just doing a couple more and taking the DNF, but then decided to just go slow and careful on the low setting and hope for the best. Worst case was the full moon was rising in the east, so if it totally died on me I could just navigate by moonlight and generally head back toward the house. But the light held out and I did the whole course - a couple walkabouts - mostly because I couldn't see very far into the distance and got pushed around a lot by laurel thickets - weren't really errors but just the limitations of navigating in a 6' sphere of illumination.
