Note
(sick)

Managed to make it back to Melbourne, with ear plugs on the plane to reduce the pressure problem (which l've had before when l flown when sick). Now feeling absolutely lousy, with conjunctivitis and infection in everything south from there. Haven't eaten and hardly drunk anything since Thurs. Glad to be home.
Upon reflection on my orienteering campaign, l think l put in a reasonable effort and improved my placing relative to other Aussie women in my class. Enjoyed both the sprints and the long events. Huge effort by NZ to run 3 major carnivals in such a short space of time.

Note
(sick)

I have caught the lurgy, am spending the day in bed and probably will not make the WMOC finals this weekend. I am lucky this happened at this end of the holiday and also that l didn't make the A finals, as l would have been very disappointed. I think l had a reasonable chance at the B finals, but not to be.

Orienteering 59:00 [3] 4.5 km (13:07 / km)

WMOC Long Qualifier 2. I was hoping to make amends and scrape into the A final but it was not to be. Finished 35/60 in heat 1, so go into the B final. This is probably about right for me, relative to the other people in my category . Got outrun by a W70 in the finish shute.
I enjoyed today a lot, but messed up the first two controls. More practice required. I liked the atmosphere at the arena, with the music and lots of smiling faces. Still guessing distances as l can't be bothered turning on my garmin.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 4.5 km (13:20 / km)

WMOC Long Distance 1st qualifier. I was an early start, which meant a quiet forest. However, the pack came through me at about 5 and, although l tried to hang on, this meant l took risks l hadn't intended to, and had to search for a couple of controls. 39/62, which meant I'll have do much better tomorrow to get in the A finals. Margie and Ted did really well.
At least l was coloured coordinated, with my new pink shoes, top, number (pink for girls!) and glasses.

Walk 1:30:00 [3] 4.0 km (22:30 / km)

WMOC model event at Woodhill. My knee is feeling pretty sore after a week or so of events (and from yesterday's stumble) and l just walked slowly around checking the terrain.

Orienteering 20:18 [3] 2.5 km (8:07 / km)

Masters A sprint final at Auckland University campus, a place that appeared to be designed by a stair happy marijuana affected architect. I went to 8 before 7 (l still can't count to 10), and hung around one control searching after thinking it wasn't mine, when in fact it was, then tripped over the speed hump into the finish, narrowly avoiding a fall. Came 39/ 60 in the A final, putting me 39 of 120 starters in W55, up several places from yesterday. Pretty happy with that! Some outstanding results from other Aussies.
