Tralee-Listowel-Finuge-Abbeydorney-Tralee
1st night of the year out on a Thursday with the Chain Gang. Large group out the hill to Leith, ended up in a slower group but wasn't worried as Donncha Galvin was there. A few lads from the 1st group stopped at Leith Cross so that left myself and Donncha chasing. Lucky I had him as that lad is good on a bike, best in the club. So took about 1km to catch the 5 lads in front. The fact that there was a shocking headwind made life even more difficult. Wind was really bad, strong. Wasn't pleasant taking a turn on the front.
Things improved a lot when we turned off the N69 towards Finuge, wind kinda behind us. Pace improved a bit along this road but not as much as I thought it would. At least the road back was flat, up and down going to Listowel. Trip home did go quickly though. Even the hill up from Abbeydorney to Tralee was easy in a group. Thought pace would have been harder but only really went up for last km. 5 of us at this stage, 2 dropped off on 1st pull on road out of Abbeydorney. Managed to be in 3rd position at the top, but it was all very close.
Descent into Tralee was a bit dodgey, roads were greasy due to recent rain. But there was a dry track in the middle of the road between the wet lines left by wheels. We all made it down the steep and fast descent safely, maxed at 57.2kph, so would've easily been 60+ in the dry.
Legs felt alright but need more cycling. Didn't have enough power catching the first group early on, but did alright near the end.
