Dinosaur hunting!
Drove up to the Barrage d'Emosson at almost 2000m
Even after the dam, the path was not boyzone-friendly
Onwards and upwards.
Passed through the middle of this picture:
The lake of Vieux Emosson was drained for works.
The dark rock came one upon a time from the Chamonix valley, the other side of the Aiguilles Rouges, pushed over when the Alps were forming.
Now if only I'd been here 240 million years earlier, I might have caught one!
The route back down via Gorge de Veudale.
To be greeted by bouqetins, left
right
and centre (a whole family or two)

Le Tour to Lac de Charmillon, Col de Balme, Catogne, Col des Posettes, Le Tour.
Nice out. Tried out my new Salewas, they seem relatively good!
First bit was cross-country to the ridge over le Gratapia. Further up, met some flaming redhead Irish lasses.
Didn't go up the ridge to la Croix de Fer, sign up saying the path was dangerous, though I suspect it was mostly just scary. Entertainment provided by a woman up near the distant cross descending and ascending multiple times a distance of ten or twenty metres and unsuccessfully cajoling a dog to follow her, not sure which direction was the problem. Looked impressive.

Skistation Chamonix to Montenvers.
Passed a sign showing the level of the Mer de Glace in 1820. Would have been something to see. Had half a plan to do a section of the grand balcon nord, but it was getting late and starting to rain. Fairly drenched by the time I got back to Chamonix, but temperatures were close to 15 degrees, so not unpleasant.
