Note
Should have held my breath for parts of today's second course.
Driving up from Geneva, I got stuck behind a big car transporter lorry, all the way up past Col de la Faucille. Plenty of opportunities for him to pull over and let us pass, but would he? Nah. Then a national road between Les Rousses and Morez was closed. Plus there was quite a bit of traffic... so by the time I arrived in Riviere Drugeon for O'Doubs, it was two minutes past my start time.
No rush then... I went to Accueil, on my envelope it was marked that I hadn't paid. I wondered whether that might happen, since a few days before when I looked at the entry list, it said as much... so I sent them a mail with my bank transfer confirmation (and med cert). No response.
I also sent them a mail on Wednesday wondering why I was in H35 instead of H21, no response to that either.
So at Accueil, I had to wait for ten minutes for 'responsible' lady to talk to me. In response to me saying I had paid and that I had sent an email with payment confirmation, she replied that I hadn't paid. That pleased me no end. I asked if they read their emails. She said no, not the past few days. Great stuff, from a relatively expensive, high-aiming French multi-day. After a bit more back and forth, I stupidly asked why I was in H35. She replied that I entered H35, that they cannot change the entries. To avoid fulminating, I turned in a huff and went outside to breathe. Angry with organisers, me? Been a while. Went back in, kissed and made up, then walked away again.
Later on, spoke with Eddie W who informed me the Fédé had instructed B25 to bump me down to H35.
Meanwhile, my race time was running. I lay down for a bit because I was exhausted, cumulative lack of sleep catching up on me, then went to the start. Nope, no reassigning start times, no matter how long I spent at Accueil.
Oh well.
