skiing 1:30 [3]

Took a while to get out today. Passed by decathlon to get a yoga mat for the office and sorbothane insoles for skiing. They seemed to help, too much space without them.

More time disappeared when I randomly found a maison du fromage, but it was worth it.

The hills were cloudy when I started heading up, so I wasn't expecting much. The road from Bonneville to Brison is pretty narrow, zigzagging up a cliff more or less :

At Brison it opens up a bit, and the road from there up to the plateau de Solaison is just normal steep, and thankfully none of it was icy.

By the time I started skiing it was about 6pm, which meant I got sunset hitting the Alps to the east, sunset-lit clouds to the west, and as night fell the moon broke through the inconsistent clouds above, the planets appeared, then stars as the cloud dissipated and my moonshadow strengthened. At one point wind made an appearance and brought low, sparse cloud and fog up from the west, making for strange oscillations to the moonlight. Five minutes later, the wind departed and the skies were clear anew.

The blue/red piste was closed (pour damage?), so I did multiple laps of the freshly-groomed green. The first time around the snow felt really soft and not too fast. The second lap was pretty as it changed from virgin piste to one set of skate tracks. I was gliding longer and better by this stage, or perhaps the tracks motivated me to make more effort.

I had the tracks to myself, but as I finished a bunch of others were heading for the station's annual ski nocturne. I didn't stay for the concert (brr), but did knock back two tartiflettes for the princely sum of 6 euros.

Pity there was no room in the gîte, would have been nice to stay for a morning ski too.
