rogaining race (Tea Tree Minigaine) 2:55:00 [3] 25.0 km (7:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 19

I haven't run in a minigaine since 2014 because I've helped out the last 3 years, and when AK became unavailable I thought I may need to help again, but Zara & Ben Cazzolato kindly let me gatecrash their team, and a good time was had by all. Not sure that we planned quite thoroughly enough, possibly because we were still trying to pull together a team outfit where all 3 of us sort of matched - end result was 3 capes, 2 sparkly bowler hats, one tutu, and my trusty cobalt-blue frilly miniskirt teamed with fuschia-pink stockings! All this for 30 bonus points...

Also not sure that quite all the controls were exactly where they were meant to have been, and it would have helped if some of the places where you couldn't get through parkland due to 6+ foot high fences were shown, because the time we lost due to backtracking (and also waiting at traffic lights) probably could have got us an extra control.

But hey, we had fun, and it was nice along the Torrens, and not too bad heading over towards Tea Tree Plaza, but then we realised we were going to run short on time partly because of the limitations of where the O-Bahn could be crossed, so hot-footed it around past Hope Valley Reservoir. It was a good thing that Ben was carrying the Navlight tag, because my neuroma was quite bothersome for the last hour and I was grateful not to have to do even the extra 5m to punch each control. Kept seeing Susan & Dave George on & off, and they were moving a bit faster than us, carrying nothing whatsoever, so it wasn't a complete surprise that they just beat us and we ended up 3rd, ahead of a tight bunch so it was important to keep running until the end.

Sa Jo & Abi going in the opposite direction about 100 min in, and thought that they might struggle to get done in the remaining 80 min what we had done so far, and so it proved, but even though they were back 17 min late they still won! Great outfits with the matching control t-shirts and nail polish :)

swimming 34:00 [3] 1.0 km (34:00 / km)

Very tired this morning, maybe because of the thunderstorm in the night. Birds in the trees by the pool were chattering happily after rain.

running (Belair) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 19

Slow plod up past the lake & back with Zara, Callum of course, Leith for a bit. Not sure why none of us was enthused tonight but it did seem warmer than usual.
In other news, I've been back at FMC for a year now...not sure what I think about that. (Certainly not holding my breath any time there's some sort of publicity about "reopening the Repat".) On balance, it's been better than I expected but I still can't match names to faces for about 50% of the 100+ people in the pharmacy department.

orienteering race (Hawthorndene Scare-O) 25:40 [4]
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Bridget's Halloween special. Almost wondered if I shouldn't go because my upbringing was to avoid such crass commercialism/meddling with the occult, but I'm glad I went because it was heaps of fun, thanks Miss Anderson. 15 controls were spread across 3 copies of the tiny Apex Park map, and had to be punched in order, so that we needed to keep flipping the map over to work out where the next control actually was...helps if you don't read 1 for where it's actually 11, and little things like that!

But the best bit was some people's costumes; don't know which I liked best: Ethan as the Grim Reaper, complete with scythe which he carried around the entire course, or Tyson in his orienteering tuxed-O, now too big for him so that he made an excellent zombie. There was a rumoured sighting of Jemery Day, but it turned out to be just that Angus was suffering from Old Man Syndrome. He'd clearly studied this video very carefully: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JR19IpqL92M

Also, Adelaide did manage a 35-degree day in October after all.

running hills (Morialta) 54:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:45 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 19

Standard 3-falls loop with the group, and we were rewarded by the sight of water still flowing at 3rd Falls. Can tell how much fitness I've lost in the past month (where I've logged the least exercise since 2012 when my knees were bad) but at least knees seem to have settled, although I was landing so flatfootedly to protect them that by the end hamstring had an opinion. It was worth it though to admire the lovely wildflowers, especially everlasting daisies, running postmen and vanilla lilies.

Note

Being on my feet all day in the dispensary was enough.
