swimming 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)

Pleasant immersion before AOTKM.

Spent the afternoon being vaguely useful at Bridget's junior girls' training @Marino. The grid of controls on the beach, involving obligatory wet feet, was lots of fun!

orienteering (Oaklands Park) 43:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Glad this was flat, because I'm pretty tired by this end of the week. The time taken to run around all 20 controls was significantly less than that taken by my parents on the shortest course, so I had the opportunity to try the juniors' micro sprint grid exercise which was being done on map memory - Toby and I started out head to head and both had sudden and complete mental blanks at the same point while Manu laughed at us!

Just proves that I sometimes need to switch my brain off on a Friday night, which I am achieving with red wine that goes nicely with the pizza which I picked up on the way home :)

running (Belair) 53:40 [3]

Lovely social run with Zara, and Callum of course, on a nice cool damp-smelling evening, up the inside park boundary and back along Long Gully.

In other news, I am now sitting in an office where my fellow occupants are fanatical about the intra-departmental Christmas decorating competition, and somewhat bitter about having only come 3rd in it last year. My contribution to this year's decorations has been some very cute little penguin ornaments procured from Coles. Today the penguins mysteriously learned to abseil!

orienteering (Rymill Park) 22:00 [3] 3.1 km (7:06 / km)
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

This was set by Manu as sprintervals with bonus legs for faster people (using the peg relay concept) but Sarah & I both got there late and had only one map between us so we did sections on map memory (getting her to simplify and memorise) and alternated bonus legs. It's good that this was broken down into 'bite-sized pieces' - because I'd eaten too many bite-sized pieces during post-meeting drinks & nibbles with my colleagues and was rather too full for running properly!

running hills (Morialta) 1:06:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 22

I crashed out at 8pm last night and was still feeling rather weary in mind & body today, so going up Deep View was a struggle (not aided by old shoes with poor grip), but once at 3rd Falls did convince myself to go up to Norton Summit Rd and come down from Pretty Corner.

Note

Woot - G finally got rid of the derelict old Landcruiser and somebody actually paid him $1000 for it (he paid $4K 5 years ago and I'd suggested more than once that if it wasn't fully renovated/roadworthy within a 4-year window it needed to be onsold...)

From the AIS over to and around Aranda with Blair on a clear rain-washed morning; lots of roos out and some creeks still trickling. Bright red rosellas and grevilleas. Legs appreciated the softer ground although by the end knees were getting somewhat recalcitrant. We squeezed this in with enough time for pre-conference coffee/breakfast @ Two Before Ten, which justified the early start :)
