shoes: Asics Kayano 21

Made hard work of a scenic jog (should not have brought my oldest shoes with me) out to and around East Point on a still cloudy morning. Almost seemed humid, probably just because all the lawns are watered in the Dry, although I could have sworn that there had been a smattering of pre-dawn rain... Saw a Forest kingfisher, Emerald dove, and lots & lots of wallabies in the monsoon forest.

Note

Geoff & I drove out to Kakadu this afternoon and started our explorations with the 2.5km Bardedjilidji Sandstone walk which is next to Ubirr where we then admired lots of Aboriginal rock art, and the view from the top of the rock outcrop across to Arnhem land. This would have been a lovely place to stay and watch the sunset, but lots of tour groups were arriving at that time in order to do likewise and we still needed to find a campsite for the night, so headed off, but were sidetracked to Cahills Crossing, where we wondered at so many people watching 4WDs fording the East Alligator river (I was surprised at it appearing to flow upstream, but it's still tidal there) and then realised that in fact they were watching three very large toothy floating 'logs' in the river...

We had been underwhelmed by Jabiru as a locality so continued to Mureilla Park halfway between there and Cooinda, and got lucky because this quiet campground, 6km off the highway, has a big "no generators" sign, tends to attract smaller tents & campervans, yet has flushing toilets and hot showers! Also only 25km from where we needed to be the next morning.
