Left the house at 4 am and drove sideways about an hour to pick up Amy, leaving her house at 5:20. Then it was off, with Pepper on her bed and blanket on a pile of equipment behind the front row seats. She usually rides curled up the passenger side floor, and she didn't like being where she was. Amy had to hold her back there, and then eventually she settled down.

But, every time we stopped, which was more often this trip, Pepper would fight her re-relegation to the back. On the third stop, we switched drivers, and that was the last she rode back there the rest of the trip. She actually doesn't take up much room on the floor, curling herself up in a ball, sort of saying, see, here is plenty of room for you or Amy too.

Took us until 4 pm (10:45) to get to the Spring event site.

After this very long day in the car, I decided I would take Pepper and try out the Sprint course - in jean shorts and trainers. Probably not a sound plan, but since my one fall didn't cause any damage, I guess it was ok.

Walk to start was .5 miles with 100 m of climb (forgot to start watch). Time up about 25 minutes.

Then a bit of difficulty finding 1. A whole lot more wasted looking for 2, which remained unfound...I "blame" in on the map which was printed to the edge of the paper, and I had it upside down, doing a 180 out of 1. Pepper loves the woods, so she was happy, but these were harder on me with all of the low downed branches, and her wrapping her lease around trees. Light was starting to fade, so, I turned Pepper in the other direction and she took us back to the Start. Time out ~14:00. Turns out that the other beagle in Peppers's class suffered a similar outcome, so I guess it was a tie this time.

Then, we followed the streamers back to the Finish from the Start. This was lots of fun except for going down the treacherous reentrant. Took about 22 minutes.

It was about 5:20 when I passed Judy D going up. I thought she was making a poor choice going out so late, and she didn't return until at least 7, after getting messed up.
