slept:6.5

Spent the day at the beach in Surfside, west of Galveston at the beach house Rhonda’s brother Mike rented. Some swimming, some beach walking. Jess, Jonathan and Cooper also came, and a fairly good sized family gathering.

Gym 1:00:00 [3]
slept:7.0 weight:165.8lbs

In the gym with Eric, lots of rolling and stretching, then deadlifts and goblet squats, with a bit more weight (he is pretty cautious). It all went quite well, and I actually felt a bit more lively in the legs the rest of the day.
3 PM

Note

Brief swim in Lake McDonough with Zack and Sassy. Pretty sparkling day, although a little breezy at the lake.

First time in a while. Legs felt tired, arms felt weak, but back was solid. Nice. The rest will come.

In the gym with Eric. Deadlifts, goblet squats, TRX pushups, TRX rowing, usual stretching.
4 PM

Note

L shoulder pretty tender, figured I had strained it with 4 sets of pushups, but then later I remembered the flu shot I had today. A more likely explanation.

Day 2 Brown X at Boulder Dash. A better run, with only one significant error, a parallel error going off the wrong stream junction to #7 cost about 3 minutes. Otherwise in pretty good control, being careful. 1st on the day in M70 and 1st for the two days. Can't complain. A beautiful day, but seemed kind of humid so I went with the contact lens. Seemed to work out ok.

Brown X Day 2, map and route.

Resolved to be slower and more careful today after some close calls yesterday.

1. Trail to the junction, then more or less on compass, looking for the stream and realizing I was too far N because of the big rock before the stream. So crossed it and knew I had to go right and it worked fine.
2. Back on compass, crossing marshes and then the first trail and the second, figuring out I had to go left a bit.
3. Started to go straight for about 5 steps and realized I would much rather be on the trail, so backtracked and trail around past the marsh, to the T junction, right to the bend, then across. Got to the control and thought maybe I was still at the intermittent trail before my reentrant, almost went by, but then realized it was mine and punched, So only a little lost time standing next to the bag.
4. On compass, not bad, could see the cliff developing.
5. Could see the control from a long way.
6. Careful, looked for the big rock on the hill. Just slow and found it ok.
7. I went out and crossed the trail, but I was way south of where I thought I was, which led to wandering on the hillside for a while before I dropped down and found the stream, the stream bend, the big rock, and then in. This looked a lot more like a trail on the ground than it did a reentrant, but there it was so I punched it. Lost about 3 minutes here. Only big loss of the day.
8. Followed the intermittent trail for a while, crossing some streams. It was a bit further than I thought, but a pretty unmistakable big rock when I got there.
9. This was fine, mostly on compass, saw the big rock across the trail, saw the cliff before the control and went around it to the right. It was a bit further around than I thought.
10. A bit of an intimidating long leg, but it turned out to be good running, easy enough to keep track of where I was, and read my way right into it.
11. Hustle out to the trail, bogged down a little in the marsh before I got out.
