Walk with Rhonda on Land Bank trails from So Circuit Ave past Farm Pond and around Trade Winds airfield. Big fields, lots of native plants. Enjoyed the orange butterfly bush, very prolific right now. A large buck with velvet antlers crashed by us with a couple of dogs in pursuit, but it was no real contest. The deer was gone as quickly as he arrived, the dogs left behind with tongues dragging.

Walk #2 at Cedar Tree Neck with Rhonda, Zack, Peter, Isabel, Dave and Alicia. Very fine. Saw the area where they have had goats the last few years to try to reopen a field overrun with poison ivy, bayberry, and many other things. Also saw a herring gull in a protracted duel with an eel, grabbing it and dropping it and re-grasping. Eventually he got the right grip and tossed it up and swallowed it head first, got it about 2/3 down and gathered himself a bit, then swallowed it down, a hard swallow, but a happy bird and he flew away.

Had a nice chat with the property manager, Robert Culver, whom I had known slightly when we lived here 25 years ago. Reminisced over common acquaintances, including our very good friends Ellen Eberhard and John and Marie Elena Potter, John being also an orienteer of note. Last time we saw John we did the Big Muddy Rogaine together.
