running race 26:28 4.99 km (5:18 / km) ahr:168 max:180
The first race in the NoLaw 5K series.
This was fun, kind of. The course is flat. The first 3K is in the sun and it was hot today. I ran 7:45 for the first mile, then slowed a bit for the second, and then felt like I was overheating as I struggled to the finish. The last 2K had some shade and felt much better, but I was toast by then. The last 800 meters was slow. I took several short walking breaks.
Anyways, fun but tough and the time is kind of distressing. But, it is the time I deserve.
I'm pretty sure my last road race was in the early 1990s. I'm guessing my last race might have been a 5K in KCK.
Dinner at Rudy's with Blair, Gene and Mary afterwards.
Biking to/from the little map I'm working on. I did a little bit of field checking. I don't think I'll finish the map in May. I'll call the map Danforth Chapel. I think it'll be a fun little area to use for some training when the students aren't around.
I'm planning to run the Ad Astra NoLaw 5K tomorrow evening. I haven't done a road run/race in a long time.
Trails at Clinton. My legs felt a bit tired for the first few minutes, but then felt ok. I did 2 x HE.
When I turned around there were two MTB riders who had just caught me. I stepped to the side of the trail to let them by...and then one of them said "hey, Mike." It was Damon. Fun. I hadn't recognized him. He pointed out that he wasn't on the old Giant, but really it wasn't that I hadn't recognized his bike, it was that I wasn't really paying attention to the people. I was just trying to stay out of their way. Then when I got back near the trail head I saw Gary Henry.
MTB from home to the end of the river trail and back home.
When I arrived, the parking lot was full of cars, but I only saw one runner and two hikers on the trails. I'd expected to see some MTBers.
I was going to take a photo of the Kaw at Mud Creek, but then realized I'd forgotten my phone. When I got home, I realized I hadn't forgotten my phone, I'd forgotten that I put it in my jersey pocket.
Despite the heat, I felt mostly good. I had a water bottle with a Nuun tablet in it. Maybe that helped.
