orienteering 40:00 [2] ***
ahr:142 24c

I ran three courses: one on West Campus, then one on my new map that I haven't yet named, and then another on West Campus.

Rain fell the entire run. I figured it was a good chance to practice trying to read the map in the rain. I wore my old-man rain visor and carried a compass. It was good practice, but I miss being able to just read the map and enjoy running in the rain.

I thought I was over-dressed when I left, with a long sleeve top + jacket + gloves. But it turned out just right. In the middle of the run, there were a few minutes with strong wind. When I got home, I saw a tweet from the weather service that an area of high winds (40-45 mph) had passed through.

Includes 4x Half Ulrik's Hill. Fun. There were a lot of birds flying around the hill.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. Colder all day than I'd prepared for. Oh well.

After work I stayed downtown and met with a small group of government performance audit and data folks at Ban Thai. Really good evening. My old boss was in town to speak at a conference and it is always good to chat with him.

cycling 1:05:00 [1]

Work commute plus a trip to/from Fire Station 2. I biked on the Burroughs Creek trail on the way back from the fire station. I'd never been on it before. Lots of birds. Several people out walking dogs.

running 25:00 [2]

My plan was to mow the lawn when I got home and before the rain came. But Mary told me the rain wasn't going to arrive until 8 pm. So, I went for a bit of a jog on West Campus before mowing. It was humid. Temp was about 70F, but it felt muggy.

I thought I might spot Mary on West Campus and was a bit surprised that I didn't see her.

MTB cycling 1:15:00 [1]
ahr:127

MTB on the river trails.

I think I figured something out about how to better shift my weight on parts of the trail. It seems to help me better hold speed in a few places where I tend to lose some momentum. Fun. I'll keep practicing and experimenting. I have a lot of room for improving my single track technique.

I spent some of my time day dreaming about a new bike. When we were out in Moab I was on a rental Specialized 29er full suspension. I liked it.

I finished up my latest orienteering pants yesterday (after Mary was able to fix something I'd messed up with the sewing machine and couldn't fix myself). These are definitely my best pair yet (of 3.5 pairs). The Supplex is also a bit lighter weight than most Supplex.

running 50:00 [2]

Jogging around putting out markers at the Overlook.

I checked my email this morning and had something from Cristina-bot in my inbox. "Oh no! Better get training! Cristina currently has 44 more minutes than you over the past week!"

Then at 5 p.m. (here in Kansas), I got another email from Cristina-bot. "You seem motivated this week, with 2 more minutes of training than Cristina." That was without entering today's run in AP. It took me a few minutes to realize what happened. 5 pm in Kansas is Monday in Oslo. Cristina's training had dropped a day while mine hadn't. I guess it balances out in the end, but it was kind of funny to hear twice from Cristina-bot in one day.
