hike 2:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (15:00 / km)

Beaver Ponds to Golden Gate to Mammoth Hot Springs

We started with a upwards hike towards Beaver Ponds. But we digressed at each trail junction and ended up exploring some new areas. It was really cool to find some hidden lakes and Mike spotted a great horned owl just off the trail. We hiked a bit longer than I planned so I ended up tired and hungry, with sore calves from all the climb, but I really enjoyed this hike.

I had tracked our hike, but eventually my Garmin filled up and it started to delete the oldest files, so I don't have this track any more.

For each hike on our trip, I am only entering the "moving time". We stop a lot on our hikes. To look at things. To enjoy the view. To take pictures. And on this trip, for Mike to watch birds.

Just a little bit of exercise before we travel to Yellowstone. Will be off the grid (yeah!) so no updates until the 18th.

orienteer 12:59 [3] 1.36 km (9:32 / km) +28m 8:39 / km

Time to get in a little bit of orienteering this week to keep my streak alive. I set a course near the new engineering building/Lindley Hall that included lots of direction changes. I concentrated on looking at my compass and carefully turning the map as I left each control. I sometimes have problems in a race when I vaguely pick a direction and just head off, slightly off from where I really want to go.

Weird to be on campus with lots of folks about. I took it slow and easy, especially from 7 to 8 as I went around the construction zone near Lindley

run/walk 1:30:00 [4] 9.89 km (9:06 / km) +104m 8:39 / km

Plan was to run 90 minutes at a fast-ish pace (with 4/1 repeats) so I recruited Sandy to join me. The conversation helped make the time pass quickly and knowing that Sandy was behind me helped keep the pace honest.

cycle 1:00:00 [3] 16.09 km (3:44 / km) +52m 3:40 / km

Drove my car to Crown Toyota and went counterclockwise from there. Nice stretch without any major road crossings, and an area I don't ride often. Nice day out.
