Orienteering race 48:04 [5] 6.2 km (7:45 / km)

JIRCs Individual - Chatsworth
Grotty terrain with out of season mapping. Messed up #2 and #6 from just not seeing the control through the vegetation in the control circle. Lost a total of 6 mins which would have put me up with the leaders. The mispunch was me not checking my codes on a control very close to the correct one, even on a parallel spur, with similar codes, hm. Other than that, awrm-up and running was ok, just struggling to get through the grot in the southern half of the area.

Running (Terrain) 30:00 [4] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)

WU - 1km
Terrain intervals 3 x 1km on Blackheath West. Much slower than last time I did them as the undergrowth has risen about 1.5m, meaning some of my interval is fighting my way through small, dense trees. Felt good, but could have gone faster but didn't as it got dark after the first run and I needed a headtorch.
WD - 1km

Running race 9:10 [5] 1.8 km (5:06 / km)

Hever Castle Triathlon, 5th out of 181 entries
Awesome experience in my first triathlon! Shame the decision was taken to cancel the swim as the water temp was too cold, but the duathlon run-bike-run suited me well anyway. Started off OK, but got splattered with mud in my eyes, losing a contact lens in the first 100m. Basically finished the leg and carried on the whole race with one eye.

MTB race 13:04 [5]

4km - Very muddy course so happy I had brought a mountain bike. Gained quite a bit of time through transition 1&2 as I didn't change shoes. Felt good the whole way round, only losing a bit of speed at the final hill.

Running race 10:10 [5] 1.8 km (5:39 / km)

Started off well and joined into a bunch, catching up with the 3rd place guy, but 5th just behind me. Slow up the hills in the middle of the course, but ratcheted up the pace on the last hill. It was a jostle at the last 300m but I ended up 4th in my heat and 5th overall. Very happy with my race, I found out the 1st and 3rd lads were both GB squad and I was only 30-60 secs behind them.
Excellent fun experience, might do another Tri next summer after GCSEs.
