Orienteering race 33:38 [5] 4.2 km (8:00 / km)

JK Middle – Brereton Spurs
Felt better today, getting a good lengthy warm-up in. Ran well around the first half, but took a cautious route round to #1, going around on the path. Then no mistakes until #11, messing up a short leg that should have been straightforward. I took it too fast and not reading the detail enough caused me to lose around 45 secs-1min. I caught up with Oliver Lunn at #14 but still managed to hesitate on that control as well. Latter part of the course went well, running fast and navigating cleanly with no physical or navigational hiccups after #14.

Orienteering race 15:39 [5] 3.1 km (5:03 / km)

JK Sprint – MOD Stafford
Very easy sprint around army barracks. Not much navigation needed so no real errors but only a couple of route choice hesitations. Felt physically pretty bad, consequence of not enough warm-up, I think. I ran around with a stitch from #2 so that hindered my concentration a bit throughout. My breathing felt rough and leg speed wasn’t up to a good standard. I ended up quite a bit behind the leaders. Not happy, so several things to reflect on there!

Orienteering race 50:02 [4] 6.56 km (7:38 / km)

SOL 1, Scotland. Blue, 5.3km. OK race around Auchingarrich, a pretty green map as well. The dark green was mostly dense spruce trees planted in rows so some of it was runnable. Felt pretty good after a tough weekend and kept a steady pace throughout. Made annoying small mistakes at #1, #8, #12, #13, a small parallel error, again. Pretty detailed in that section #12-13 so should have taken more care.
5 races in 36 hours, lots of great Scottish terrain, so an epic weekend!!
