Boulder Backroads Half Marathon

I was not pushing myself today; I was in "I'll just be happy to finish" mode.

Given that I was feeling physically worn down and unexcited about this race for all of last week...I guess I'm satisfied with a sub-10:00 overall pace. For my next half, I'll behave better the day prior and go in with a specific goal (maybe sub-2:00:00?).

We started at 7:15 am at the Boulder Reservoir and did a big loop on mostly dirt roads north and east of the res. Other people complained about the heat, but it didn't seem especially hot to me. My stomach seized up in the 11th mile, so I slowed way down and then walked for a while. A few of my LoCO friends passed me there, but I eventually caught and passed them in the last mile.

I was impressed with myself for catching and passing Carol near the end -- until I heard that she had done an extra seven miles before the race. Yowza...

Fun lunch at the Rio afterwards.

Results are posted, and I was 8th out of 35 in F45-49. I would've had to cut ~21 minutes off my time to break into the top three (not gonna happen!), so I guess I'm OK with my place. ;-)
