Day 2 started with the spare compass. Only two errors, and those were not related to compass work, but lack of sensible attack point choices for the first two rock controls.
1- Went in too early, not noticing the thicket that was a good attack point. 1.10 lost.
2- Met Julie on the way to two. She had not found her first control despite being 20 minutes into the race. And it turned out she was a long way from where she should have been. I acted compassionately and helped her relocate. Then she led me into my next control (her first). I went in too early. Lost 40 seconds.
3- The long leg. Did this one ok. Surprised me as I was thinking half way through that I had taken the straight option and going around the rough stuff might have been better.
5-11. No errors. Somewhat slow up the hills.
Placed 8th for the day I think. A somewhat better result. Pulled back to 10th overall. A little happier.
