Real Orienteering race (Wattle Gully (Spring Gull) 1:09:09 [3] **** 6.83 km (10:07 / km) +225m 8:42 / km
spiked:9/15c shoes: Salamon Speed Cross 4 Black

32nd Bush event
Spring Gully (Fryerstown).
Tough country when your right glute is being nursed through the event.
Only spiked 9 out of 15, but this makes it sound worse than it was. I calculate a 9% error rate by time. I have had much worse.
2-3 was the worst. Took the wrong route choice to left of creek. That would not have been so bad, except for unmapped thicket along the creek. I had to run along for a while looking for a crossing point. Then I stuffed up at the other end. This was the big error. Maybe 4 minutes.
5-6 30 seconds maybe. I came in metres from the control and didn't see it, so turned the wrong way.
7-8 Went past the pit and had to backtrack a short way. 20 seconds.
9-10 Wrong route choice. Probably better off on the track to the west.
12-13 A hard one to spike coming down the hill in the green. Aimed for the clearing, turned left and then went back up the creek. 50 seconds?
14-15 Wrong line to control 10 seconds.
In summary, major time losses due to the Bendigo straight line tendency. Have to cure this.
