Running warm up/down 20:00 [1] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 Amber/Silver

Warm up including shadowing Ewan around his course. He was orientating his map using the lake and working out which direction to run, which I thought was great considering he hasn't orienteered in months. His enthusiasm for distance running doesn't come close to matching his enthusiasm for playing in the water, which he did for hours after the race.

OQ club relays at Wivenhoe Dam Lake. I was in a team with Wendy and Mikaela Gray, and I was the runner who remained behind instead of the going in the mass-start. This was probably a mistake on such hot day!

Mikaela got back first and wasn't near any other teams on a similar strategy so I ran the whole thing more or less by myself, although I saw Krystal and Mark Nemeth briefly as I went past. It was a bit of lazy run. I didn't have a strong focus and was being a bit lazy with my technique so I lost time in a few places — #1 lost contact on the vague spur below the control and #8 mis-interpreted the shape of the inlet and came in too far right and a couple of seconds elsewhere — but otherwise it was just unpleasant and hard to push because of the heat. I'm glad it only took me 45min and not an hour like some others. Good long dip in the lake after.
