Cycling 1:19:00 [3] 28.1 km (2:49 / km)

A bit of soreness again this morning so rode rather than ran, initially up the Heidelberg hill then tracing a course west then south (with one diversion because a key path connection has become a building site since the last time I was out here). Seemed to be plodding a bit and tired a little at the end, but not too bad. Fairly quiet out as might be expected.

I was more confident of where west and south were than whoever was responsible for naming the streets in one pocket of West Heidelberg I passed through - when you get to the point where you've been on South Crescent until it turns into North Crescent, you'd expect to get into East Street by turning right, not left.

Run ((orienteering)) 30:00 [3] *** 3.8 km (7:54 / km)
spiked:13/14c

Back out to Eaglemont Flats on a Saturday morning, a somewhat familiar experience from last year which hopefully won't be quite as familiar this year. Soreness had improved somewhat overnight; still not quite right but runnable. A bit nicer in the terrain than I expected at this time of year - the grass here is the sort that doesn't seed - but still didn't feel a lot of fluency. Reacquainted myself with the spider web facial, something we'll probably see more of next weekend (if it happens). Starting to get a bit more painful at the 30-minute mark and pulled up there, perhaps 10-15 short of what I'd hoped for, but OK for a restart.

I wasn't quite sure whether masks were required running this time, but given that of the 20-odd runners and cyclists I saw on the way here the percentage wearing them was zero, I decided to follow their lead. Even if I've got this wrong (and if I have the authorities need to publicise it better, because it's a change from last year), the chances of running into any police off-track at Eaglemont Flats are pretty low - at any rate lower than they would have been along the Darebin Creek (currently the subject of a murder investigation).

There was a flyer on a sign at the Eaglemont car park offering a $5000 reward for a missing dog. Must have been a valuable dog (the flyer was from October but I don't know what the outcome might have been).

Cycling 41:00 [3] 15.0 km (2:44 / km)

Without a lot else to do and with the morning having fallen a bit short of expectations, I went out again in the afternoon (wouldn't want to let too much of the allotted two hours - which appears to be breakable into any number of parts - go to waste). A bit sluggish early on but started to get into it, though there seemed to be headwinds from more directions than there should have been.

A couple of freshly minted 'Sack Dan's were painted on paths, although I'm not quite sure who is supposed to be doing the sacking. For those who need to refamiliarise themselves with this democracy thing (and, given that a lot of these people are Trump fans, perhaps they do), you get the opportunity to sack Dan on the last Saturday of November next year, providing you can convince a majority of voters in a majority of seats to agree with you.

Cycling 1:01:00 [3] 22.2 km (2:45 / km)

Tightness/soreness on inside of left leg from last night was still there this morning, so after failing to loosen it up, plan B was an evening ride - an out and back along the Koonung path (if only because it's somewhere I won't be able to go again for a while). Ended up as a decent ride though quite dry by the end of it (not sure why as it wasn't that warm).

Run ((street-O)) 33:00 [3] * 5.1 km (6:28 / km) +80m 6:00 / km
spiked:11/11c

Street-O at Belmore. About the only thing that could be said for this run is that I came in 500 metres less than the course-setter's distance estimate, so I must have done something right. Otherwise it was a real struggle - back tight after a day sitting and, unlike some other times, a break of a minute or two a few minutes in wasn't enough to get it going again. Ended up walking most of the hills but did manage to jog the rest. A bit of groin tightness later on, too.

It was a warm night, but after a cool summer we're about to see a bit more of this, with a prolonged warm spell next week which may well stretch into the Bendigo weekend.

Pool running 45:00 [3] 0.7 km (1:04:17 / km)

First time for three weeks or so that I've had a false start on the running front (hopefully nothing persistent), so instead switched to the pool at the end of the day. Fitzroy is a rather different place on a hot sunny late afternoon to what it is in the morning, but I managed to find enough space to get this done without bumping into too many people.

Dumb criminal of the day (an occasional series).

Run intervals 12:00 [4] 2.0 km (6:00 / km)

All Nations intervals. Starting to feel a bit stronger than the last couple of sets but began to get a little lower back tightness on the last two reps (just when I was starting to think about stretching it out longer). Still an improvement, I think. Very nice morning to be out - I definitely don't mind cool summers (although the next couple of days will be warm).

Run warm up/down 26:00 [3] 4.0 km (6:30 / km)

Warm-up and down. Tight early but a pause for a road crossing fixed that, and felt much better coming back than I have the last couple of times; stringing some solid weeks of training together is hopefully having some impact.

Pilates 40:00 [3]

Monday morning Pilates. Mostly fairly routine but did feel a little hip soreness with one of the exercises; went away pretty quickly though.
8 AM

Swimming 37:00 [2] 1.0 km (37:00 / km)

Moving on to Fitzroy pool. A bit more up and down than last week and was occasionally threatening to cramp, but ended up not too different in the end result.

It's a conference week this week, but all online this year (and as a local conference at least it's in a local time zone). Inevitably there were a few technical issues on the first day but it seemed to work OK for the most part.
