Run 2:07:00 [3] 22.1 km (5:45 / km)

A morning's work adequately done is the best description of this run; always felt like it was a bit of a slog, but kept putting away the kilometres and ended up with my longest run for more than a year.

Started up through Heidelberg and was reasonably steady over the gentler side of what's known in Melbourne cycling circles as the Col de Burgundy. That gave me enough confidence to try something more ambitious and do the Bulleen traverse, something which was a regular route for me when living out this way (albeit more often from south to north) but not since then. The hills were fine from an aerobic perspective, but my hip (which has been largely trouble-free for the last fortnight) flared up on the downhills. I was hoping it wouldn't take a turn for the worse - it's a long way to walk home from there - but it gradually settled on the flatter areas, and knowing that there was only one more (short) steep descent, I hoped it would hold out. It did. Finished off with the loop past the Fairfield pipe bridge, something I may not be doing for much longer in its present form - the new Chandler bridge work looks like it's getting close to being at the stage where it will no longer be possible to go underneath the bridge on the riverbank until the work's finished sometime next year (looks like the north side is already blocked off).

Not feeling super-energetic through the rest of the day, but pleased to get that one under my belt. I haven't yet made a decision about the ultra-long, but will only consider taking on the long course there if I can get through a training run in the 2.5-hour range beforehand (an attempt is tentatively planned for two weekends from now).
