Easter Day 3 - Curryjong Rivulet
Well that was the kind of Easter Day 3 disaster I used to have in juniors.
I don't know what happened on the way to 1. Almost caught up to Anna D, and then did something wrong (still not sure what, but possibly finding a veg boundary, thinking it was a track, and somehow managing to run 150 degrees in the wrong direction).
Did 2 well, then something happened on the way to 3. Still can't work it out, but it all went wrong after I saw Schepisi. Eventually found my way into the big yellow strip west of the control a long way south of where I was meant to be, but couldn't estimate distance and had to go right to the dam before I could go in to the control. Couldn't read the different vegetation types, and must have crossed a track at some stage without realising. Mustn't have looked at my compass at any stage.
Found 4 fine (although probably not the best route choice), 5 and 6 were good, then lost time on 7 not realising it was slightly off to the side of the gully. Rest of the course went ok, but I wasn't having a whole lot of fun by then.
Things to work on after Easter:
- keeping map contact
- dealing with distractions (didn't think this was a problem for me, but the evidence from the weekend would say otherwise)
- orienteering in general, based on day 3
- compass
Still, keen and looking forward to May NOLs. Got to get hip flexor sorted though, which will probably cost lots of $$ and involve not running for a bit (based on my latest physio appointment).
