Orienteering race (World Masters Sprint Qual) 16:11 [5] 3.3 km (4:54 / km) +25m 4:44 / km
ahr:167 max:178 shoes: Under Armour Run Fast

Made my debut in M40 (managed to skip M35, although only due to injury stopping me racing in Gothenburg 2 years ago) at the Uni of Auckland Epsom Campus.

Real tricky sprint, easyish start but then things got real hard. I felt like i spent a lot of time standing still looking for how to get from one control to the next, and a few controls needed some really wide routes which always makes you think you've missed something. i can see a few routes where i could have save a few seconds but the most time lost was getting stuck behind oldies on some narrow passageways - there was heaps of them (both oldies and narrow passageways). I lost 20 secs on 15, not actually sure what i did wrong there besides traffic, need to see routegadget. Managed to get the win, hopefully the other old guys i'm racing struggle as much as i do to race 2 days in a row!

Orienteering race (Oceania Middle) 43:56 [5] 5.8 km (7:34 / km) +300m 6:01 / km
ahr:159 max:169 shoes: Inov8 Xtalon 212 (4)

At The Rockery, f#@*ing miles from anywhere, and even further from the rest of Oceania...

Pretty cool area though, mostly open farmland with some cool rock details and sinkholes. I started ok, but missed 5 - went a gully too far, pretty annoyed by that. Mostly good for the rest but took a bad route on the long one which cost a lot of time, and just got very tired... Could have done without the 3 visits to hospital in the last 5 months! Very slippery running, and pretty rough underfoot so lots on mincing going on protecting my dodgy ankle.

End up 15th, and 6th Aussie so a respectable result really - and happy to be that close to the top all things considered.
