Orienteering - Urban race (Knaresborough) 51:46 [5] 9.51 km (5:27 / km) +225m 4:52 / km
ahr:142 max:155 shoes: Adidas Adios 3

Well planned course, good area, lovely day - what's not to like?

Didn't get the route to 3 right but spotted the trap just about before it was too late.missed the optimum to 7 as well, unnecessary zigzagging.then there was a great section 13-20 going into and out of the castle grounds with excellent route choice.I think I only missed one on 18 where I took the shortest route but it involved going all the way up and all the way down again; lots of steps/tourists.otherwise happy.

3-4mins behind Leon I think, will be interesting to see splits/routegadget.

Running - Road/Track race (Parkrun - Macclesfield) 19:07 [5] 5.0 km (3:49 / km) +61m 3:36 / km
ahr:139 max:163 shoes: Adidas Adios 3

My new local; most definitely not flat - much undulation and many corners too make it not a fast course. Quite a nice one for a city park, though, although will be terrible in winter since there are some narrow paths and many many people to overtake.

Relatively pleased with time, didn't feel too bad.

Running - Trail race (West Nab) 52:09 [5] 8.85 km (5:54 / km) +501m 4:36 / km
ahr:145 max:161 shoes: X-Talon 225 (July 2017)

Shoelace snapped half an hour before the start, luckily there was enough of it left to salvage...think these shoes are pretty much dead anyway.

Seemed to be a very low turnout for this. From the start the whole field went off crazily fast up the first hill and I was was very near the back, thinking 'there's clearly a stile I don't know about'...unfortunately it was far worse than that; after about 100m there was over a km of single-track with no overtaking possible. So I had a nice jog at the beginning surrounded by people I was much better than, whilst the leaders disappeared into the distance.

Did mean I had a psychologically good race as I was then passing people the whole way around. There were a few more single track climbs later on though where I'd caught a group and then couldn't get past again which was frustrating, but later in the race there was plenty of opportunity and I think by the end I probably got to somewhere near the position I should've been in. Would be interesting to do it again with a different strategy.

And it was a good race, proper fell race with a bit of everything, steep accents and descents, some technical bits with tree roots, stream crossings, boggy bits, tussucks, even a bit of road for variety. Surprised field wasn't bigger really, but I guess a lot of people will be away for the BH.

Tight calves will need some pummeling before tomorrow.

(rest day)

Walked up Nancy. It's a brutal climb! Need to run it more. Great views from the top, so glad I bought a house here.

Also my table was delivered today, ending over a month of eating meals sitting at the piano :)

Orienteering - Forest race (Lyme Park) 43:58 [5] 6.67 km (6:36 / km) +279m 5:27 / km

Fairly straightforward, felt to be running ok (although slow through the tussucks) but roundly beaten by the proper elites who showed up.

Bit of a miss on #2 going round an extra blob of green, then going straight to 9 caused me extra height gain that could've been avoided for not much extra distance.found 14 before 11, but they were only 50m apart.otherwise pretty good (but it was navigationally easy).

3rd when I left, but 8 mins down.I'd have struggled to save more than a couple of those at most.

Orienteering - Forest race (ScamperO) 1:29:17 [4] 13.67 km (6:32 / km) +485m 5:33 / km

The good thing about O put on by a running club is that you can do really badly and still come 3rd (and be only 1 point away from winning!).

1:25k map with clues. Two 4 point controls, all the rest 1 point.

Basically took a bad route from the start, changed my mind a few times, didn't really look at the contours. Second control I saw got the answer to the question wrong (wrote down the wrong thing on the footpath sign) and then just missed an obvious junction.if I'd have got this two I'd have won...after that though still kept missing junctions and not ending up taking the route I'd planned so had quite a few dog legs and was very inefficient.
Much better after about halfway once I'd got into the map/scale and did really well on the way back, judged the time really well too, but too little too late unfortunately.
Nice evening though and still won some beer (although missed out on the jam).
Scored 21 points, tied with someone else who was 30s faster. Winning score was 22. Would've got 23 by just not being an idiot, and probably 25 without actually running any faster and just spotting the right junctions - some local knowledge would've gone a long way (and I'll have it next year...)
