Drizzly but not chilly at the bottom, felt a bit overdressed wearing a coat, but was glad of it later on in the clag and wind at the top.
Took the track on the first route choice section as the organiser said going straight across the moor was slower, would be interesting to compare, but no-one went that way I don't think.

In 5th place at checkpoint 2 but in touch with 2-3-4.the first guy had disappeared.
Very, very muddy ascent, not very steep, just muddy and wet.it turns out I'm relatively bad at those conditions and dropped to 6th at the hoofstones trig as well as losing sight of the other three.
But then it was the only leg whereby navigation was necessary,a mile straight line on a bearing into the fog, no other runners in sight.could vaguely see 5th disappearing off to my right but ignored him and stayed on my bearing.every so often saw hazy shapes in the distance but was never sure if was just imagining it.starting to get cold and was glad it was a short race and I was running ok.
Came out in exactly the right place (#orienteer), only a minute or so down on 3 and 4 who'd run the leg together.
As the vis increased I could see them ahead on the mandatory route down the hill but gap was far too big to catch them, and there was no-one behind me, so didn't push too hard.
Turned out when we finished we were 2-3-4, it looks like who we all thought was 2 got lost on the moor somewhere? Not sure what happened but would be interested to see his gps!
Winner was about 70mins I think, not seen results yet.surprised the gap wasn't much bigger than that tbh.
It looks like a viable (if uninteresting) route to come straight off the trig down to the road, along, and then up again.apparently some did this - possibly faster but would make it less of a fell race...
