Orienteering (Lovers Lane) 1:58:16 [2] 8.14 km (14:32 / km) +305m 12:14 / km
ahr:159 max:183 shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3d M+

So I made a return today - even though not 100% I think I am close enough and couldn't miss out on a Lover's Lane course particularly on a stunning day like today. The first exercise of any kind in 3 months.

Sucker for punishment signed up for H1.

Was nice to see some friendly faces at rego and before the start even though I kept the chatting to a minimum as I expected I was going to be out for a while and wanted to get a jump on the start.

S-1: 3m high my ass. did figure out I had nfi how to nav on this first point bumbling around for a while - fully expect Craig to overtake me before I got it as he was behind me. Got it eventually

1-2: Good thanks to the dam

2-3 easy leg and even though I could see the control for ages I felt it was too easy for an H1 so went South and then realised it was the right control pretty quickly and went back to it.

3-4: Fine but for the uphill - must point out I was completely 100% walk by now and the first 3 legs already mainly walked. I pretty much walked the whole course- now go look at my HR stats and you'll realise just how unfit I am.

4-5: Craig overtook me at control - felt this placement was slightly wrong to the north but probably my poor nav - still getting my head in the game at this point.

5-6: First real nav of the day, up to the small road and then contoured around onto the point. perfect execution.

6-7: Up to fence in east and around

7-8: Glided north to pick up yellow on the downhill and for most of way to track. Almost missed the small track, in fact, went past the marked/flagged track just to be sure it was the one I wanted. Pretty happy with this leg

8-9: uneventful

9-10: Followed the yellow brick road

10-11: Was on bearing saw a control to my left, did wonder if it was mine - figured it was open ground and I might have swung badly off bearing at the start of leg on the downhill - went to it was mine... apparently I was on bearing right and this was just a misplaced.

11-12: Didn't particularly enjoy this leg - contoured and yellowed around.

12-13: Yeah that yellows gone - went north picking up some clearer ground and could see control from a distance off

13-14: uneventful - good line was happy

14-15: Silly route at the start was BLAH then went south followed yellow went via 11 to the river then followed up to 15.

15-16: Easy enough shame it was climb

16-17: Tough descent stopped on the tracks to help a couple work out where they were and how to use a compass. Really broke my walking pace here lol. executed 17 nicely though.

17-18: Open field drifted a bit left but it was a pretty obvious control so happy days

18-19: Simon Windsor overtook me thankfully had seen this control a few times so didn't lose too much time here.

19-20: Again seen a lot of times so easy grab

20-F: Thought about putting in a token sprint but decided against such silliness.

Given I walked 99% was very happy with the result not being completely out of touch. Nav was rusty at first but came back pretty quickly. gosh, I got shredded by the bushes though... still love this area. Was very glad to get out and doing something physical was getting mentally int he hurt locker from lack of everything but sickness and work. Wonde rhow ill pull up tomorrow!
