Today was my first time racing down and back up Mt Sugarloaf. Very painful and a lot of "powerhiking" involved to let the HR get down into normal territory.
I came 2nd behind Vlad Shatrov who was a huge margin ahead (8-9 mins I think). As soon as we started climbing today I could feel that the flu that I've been battling for the last 4 weeks hasn't completely gone away. I could feel my pulse in my head almost instantly every time the road went up. So I think if I do this race again there's definitely a few minutes that can be taken off this time with a better build up and no flu. Vlads time is still out of reach for sure. Had a goo at half way and that perked me up a bit but the wheels were starting to fall off towards the end but I had a bloke less than 30 seconds behind me so I couldn't relax in the final 5km.
Took my data from a bloke with a really expensive watch so I think the elevation and distance should be correct. I went full nattie without a watch today, not by choice, mostly because I lost my charger chord.
I think this race has the potential to be a really popular race given that this type of race is becoming more popular world-wide. But I'm glad that for now it's a relatively small locally run and cheap
Both my big toenails are purple now.
