Orienteering race 1:06:59 [5] 10.51 km (6:22 / km) +209m 5:48 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

Caddihoe chase day 2, nearly didn't bother, but rain stopped as I arrived at event.
Short brown, 8.1km, CHASING START, 66:59, Clive 63 (!)

no Matthew owen (7 seconds behind yesterday!) , shame, but meant i felt more relaxed, but sloppy on no 4 & Ifor was on me (He'd started 1:32 behind). Crap route to 7 meant he was with me, and after no 10 (20 seconds? annoying) i put in a fairly determined effort to drop him proper. 13 & 14 went well, & by 15 I felt I'd got enough of a gap (2 mins). Tried to leave 15 through brambles & lost a minute as had to do a 180 back to nearly the control. BUT! No 16 - total disaster - no idea what they were thinking as Tamsin (3:30 faster than me yesterday) lost 8 minutes here, the large depression had no control in it, & they were all too close to the earthbanks. I knew Ifor would turn up; he did; Tamsin eventually told me where it was to put me out of my misery, it was in some unmapped bramble filled hole which was wrong, IMO. Clive - 2:36; me - 7:11; Tamsin, 12 minutes!!!!! I'm claiming 4 minutes lost.

Raged to 17 but luckily Ifor led me to it (Clive lost 3 mins here), by 18 was back to Ifor, then, sod the O, I decided to just run "at" Tamsin & her SOC clubmate Rob Finch (M21). It was now easy path running , & I pretended that I'm not unfit , & was hanging on , for grim death. Rob cocked up the tower and Tamsin really seemed to be breaking me, but she got stuck in brambles just at last control , & I was with here, & she & I punched the finish at the same time (117:59), tho I have to admit, she beat me (results say we were equal 4th). Too strong & fast!

2nd, 2nd M50, Pete Ward (M45) had a flyer, 57:30. Clive slowed in the last controls, as did Ifor - they were mainly running tho with a sting at no 23 (literally).

Very glad I came today, after all. It was fun! Well worth the sad case of number 16.
