Fell Race race (Wirksworth Incline) 27:04 [3]

Steady start, re-overtook a load of kids just before the incline, decided to tag onto a guy up to the top (telling a kid off for walking on the way) but snapped near the road-bridge. Slow on the fields where I was being gained on by a P&B runner. I was up for a race on the way down and so was he. We caught up with a [red & white vest] guy back on the railway track and overtook just as I passed the parents, I didn't look round but sounded like both were racing back to the incline. Thankfully they were as bad as I am at running down boring tracks and then I put some effort in on the flat to get away for fifth.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 10.55 km (5:41 / km) +200m 5:12 / km

Family weekend away in the peaks. Ran up to Birchen Edge area from the B&B, was going to go for a run on some paths then thought I may as well do some terrain running and map-memoried round some of the course from Feb. Felt good by the end. A few trods through the tussocks still around thankfully!

Note

Felt more like a heavy training weekend than a race weekend.

I had some shin/knee niggles on Thursday night that somehow were magically cured by 40k of running it seems. Mentally I just could never get into a sustained race mode. I was in the zone for a while in the middle after catching Kit but then lost it on the way back. Often I do struggle in the heat but it didn’t feel like that was the problem this weekend. Lead my gaffle for a short while in the relay but then didn’t actually read the map to 7 or 8 which lost me some seconds. Successfully fought off Adam though in our sprint finish for 3Xth place.

I think a few running races might help harden me up.

Good weekend anyway with good chill.
