Orienteering - race 34:26 [3] 2.53 mi (13:37 / mi)

BOC relays W40.

Last leg with Lorna and Mary. Orienteered like a raging numpty the whole way around. Was lucky to cling onto 3rd place. Shameful!

Orienteering - race 1:31:23 [3] 6.5 mi (14:04 / mi)

BOC long W21e

Bad race overall, so when I jarred my foot on the way to 15 and was then unable to run, I carried on a bit before calling it a day on the way to 17.

Scrappy to number 1 (45 secs dropped here), then set off up the hill to number 2. After about 30secs of going up the hill reading the map I was a bit alarmed at the descent into number 2. I couldn't make out the climb out of 2 so easily as it was brown on yellow, but the drop to 2 was clear to see, and it was a lot of drop. I made the mistake of assuming controls 1 and 2 were at the same height (they weren't), and that the climb out of 1 was going to be as massive as the drop down to 2. So I changed my mind and went around to 2. Big mistake. 4-5mins dropped here. I didn't realise this at the time though, so was really shocked when Julie had caught me up 6mins on the way to 3. WTF! We were together until after 6 when I took the better route.

Going ok after that. Wobble at 8, just missed 10 under the heather and assumed I must be in the wrong hill. Then 11 I headed in the general direction thinking the flat bit would be obvious, which is wasn't. I drifted far west, dropped lots (3-4 mins) and Julie caught me again...

After 14 we came out into the open and I twisted my right ankle slightly, catching myself with my left foot, which then jarred. It was pf painful to run on, so after hobbling through the spectator and getting into the softer terrain after, it was even more painful. So I bailed, which I am not proud of, but I couldn't see what I had to gain by going on.

Winsplits (I am at the bottom, obvs):

Routegadget (I had to pretend I finished to get it to save)

This race was not without plus points. I felt ok running, not good, but ok. But I don't go orienteering enough now to get away with my sloppy nav. Great planning. Great area.

Intervals - long endurance 50:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Meadows. 10 x 2 mins on with 1 min off. Felt dire, but ground it out. One of those empty-legged misery-fests. Mmmmm. Crappy!

Trail running 49:58 [3] 5.76 mi (8:40 / mi)

It was warm in Edinburgh for once.
6 PM

Cycle commute 2:12:37 [3] 22.84 mi (5:48 / mi)

The kids are with my parents so we took the opportunity to go on a bike ride. A mixture of BlackRock step challenge step-hunting and HBT-drinking-challenge beer-hunting.

Haymarket, Cramond (Cramond inn, shite, didn't stay for a drink) Leith (Salvation, a bit poncey) portobello (Espy - not bad and Dalridia - surprisingly excellent) and home in the dark. We gunned it to Cramond. I think we'll have a headwind I said. Nah, a tailwind sez Ray. We turn into the most ludicrous wall of wind. Let's hope it does down for those competing on Friday night.
