Note

Lucy's birthday party. The most stressful 2 hours of the year by a long way. She spends ages organising the theme, food, costume, games and cake etc, and expects us to provide the entertainment.

I got up at 1:30am feeling ill again :-( Good time to fine tune the games though. The theme was a superhero training school, so we tested their sensory skills (blind man's buff), ability in leaving coded messages (forfeits were written in balloons blown up then knocked around before the child chose one to pop, and did the forfeit), shooting accuracy (nerf guns at one end of the room, teddies on a box on the other, how many can you hit), hunting skills (hunt the thimble theme), athleticism (wafting a paper superhero around the dining room with a rolled up paper) and ability to bake snacks (gingerbread). highlights were blind mans buff and nerf/teddy shooting practice, lowlights were when half of the forfeits that they designed involved taking their cloths off - not something you want to see. Ray and I were left so shellshocked with exhaustion I was in bed by 7:45. never again.

Trail running 42:32 [3] 3.9 mi (10:54 / mi)

Arthurs seat jog.

I've been ill recently, and was not going to go out but ray suggested it, and I had had enough of being a parent for the day so off I headed. the good thing about having a few days off is that the legs felt great. Salisbury crags, up the Dasses (which apparently is the name of the really nice path that goes in-between the east bog path and the dry dam), the down the dry dam and up the east bog path. Very nice evening. Loads of people out. Slight calf twinge on the last half mile, bit worrying. But - whisper it - my plantar fasciitis seems to be calming down ever so slightly. I can now walk barefoot first thing without unimaginable pain.

The undergrowth was down, they've mown a lot of the long stuff on the salisbury crags plain, and it was not at all muddy for once. I was rather regretting not entering next Sunday. It will be rapid. Hmm. Always time to change my mind.

Trail running 30:14 [3] 3.0 mi (10:05 / mi)

i have just about got to the stage at work where I can get a bit more flexibility as they appreciate thst I get the hours in anyway. After working through lunch, I left at 4 so I could get a run in before resuming my parental responsibilities at 5:15. I trotted up blackford hill, and skidded down to the duckpond shambollockly, getting big muddy skids on my legs, back, arms, hands, but thankfully not my face.

Back past Marchment church to tesco. Legs felt shite, but happily that's not surprising.

Intervals - long endurance 1:01:42 [3] 6.8 mi (9:04 / mi)

My (probably annual) intervals session.

MPC. 3 x 9 mins with 4 min recovery. This felt ok. Legs not complaining. Tight chest but not too bad. Fun. I ran with one of the endless trotter men folk that I don't know the name of. The one with the look of a glakit potato, who if you were doing a film of the Broons you'd have to cast him as one of the big brothers on looks alone.
