Orienteering - race 1:25:00 [3] 11.1 mi (7:39 / mi)

Scottish champs, W21e Gullane and Archerfield.

Didn't like lots of it. Like yellowcraigs being too hard to read at that scale. Run and hope worked ok. Lots time at 4 (didn't work out the spur was the top of the cliff) and 5 which I thought was a root stock for some reason. And 10 which was in the wrong place. I didn't see the misplaced control for ages either, which was odd as I am usually quite observant. 7-12 was about 2 k of dead running, which I found 'tiresome' (see Tuesday for translation).

Then 12 was on a spur. Confused. There did not appear to be a spur in the middle of the circle. Was it on top of the crag like 4? Ran up, couldn't see it. Ran as close to the edge as I liked, could't see it. came down. Maybe it was on top of the next crag, ran up, not there. came down and found it at the crag foot. Hmm. But the worst bit was this part of map was probably the very edge of the old gullane map. And you know when the edge of the map just sort of tails off, with the contours gradually fading away and there being no other features and no other veg. This is probably what happened here, as there was a LOT of veg on the ground, but nothing on the map AT ALL. When you are standing on a fairway and it is marked as rough open you know something is wrong. Ditto the hill halfway to 21, marked as impenetrable. Looked fine to me.

21 and 22 were a lot of dead running too. I very nearly jackked at 17, but kept going and was glad I did as in the last few I made myself navigate properly for once and it was fun.

Trail running 30:00 [3] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

making me do a warm up/down by having remote start and finish
