Kāpa Day 2
Pretty much the opposite of yesterday. Terrain much vaguer, making compass very important, never my strongest area.
I was stressed and rushed off the start causing a 180 out of #1. I then had a reasonably good section through to #7 but after missing #8 and taking ages to relocate I stopped racing and treated the rest as training. But still I really struggled to understand the map and my compass work was very bad. I got blisters developing and had to stop to clear dirt from my socks, really not wanting full on blisters right now. I kept making big mistakes and kept stopping, resetting, and going again, but it just wasn't happening today. Changed compass near the end but it didn't get any better. Got back and saw I'd mispunched to cap it all off.
On the positive side JWOC is nothing like this, and I felt very good physically again. Still feeling confident, but it would be nice to have a good run tomorrow (same area though).
To try to save the day I went for the run-in victory, big cash prize for the winner of each day. Gave it my all and don't think I could have gone faster - 20 seconds for apparently 190m... Will have to see if I get the dollar.http://liveresultat.orientering.se/followfull.php?...http://3drerun.worldofo.com/2d/?server=www.o-track...
