Kāpa Day 3

I learned my lessons from yesterday and thus had a really good first 3 controls. However number 4 was straight through the vague marshy stuff, I went round the ride but when attacking nothing made sense and I spent a fair while walking in circles. Midway through this my blister starting hurting badly so I fixed my compeed, but decided just to head back home via the rest of the course to not risk anything serious. Still didn't do very well for it, but I shaved 1 second off yesterday's run-in time for 19, only to find out someone had done it in 17.

Kāpa Day 2

Pretty much the opposite of yesterday. Terrain much vaguer, making compass very important, never my strongest area.

I was stressed and rushed off the start causing a 180 out of #1. I then had a reasonably good section through to #7 but after missing #8 and taking ages to relocate I stopped racing and treated the rest as training. But still I really struggled to understand the map and my compass work was very bad. I got blisters developing and had to stop to clear dirt from my socks, really not wanting full on blisters right now. I kept making big mistakes and kept stopping, resetting, and going again, but it just wasn't happening today. Changed compass near the end but it didn't get any better. Got back and saw I'd mispunched to cap it all off.

On the positive side JWOC is nothing like this, and I felt very good physically again. Still feeling confident, but it would be nice to have a good run tomorrow (same area though).

To try to save the day I went for the run-in victory, big cash prize for the winner of each day. Gave it my all and don't think I could have gone faster - 20 seconds for apparently 190m... Will have to see if I get the dollar.

Kāpa WRE Middle

This was my main prejwoc test race - good area, good map and good competition. Very happy with how I performed, I lost small chunks of time in lots of places, especially early on, but the terrain was pretty complicated so it would have been difficult for me to be clean. Had lots of good feelings racing and felt decent physically, but found the hills tough at the end.

A good confidence boost, finished close to lots of good guys which is unexpected. Especially starting much earlier than everyone else due to no world ranking points I assume, and it tracked up a lot. Also all the Latvians have trained in this place quite a bit #excuses

Feeling good for JWOC, even if it is completely different terrain..

Gps not syncing for some reason even though my warm up and down have? Will do it with the cable on Monday.
