Running warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Orienteering 1:31:29 [3] **** 7.6 km (12:02 / km) +300m 10:03 / km

The weather did not relax one bit, even added more heat and humidity :( Thought I'll take it easy today and just enjoy the course but by the first control I realized there will be no enjoyment but rather a test of my mental toughness. It was very difficult to keep going and I was very tempted to quit once I saw Kat walking back to finish. The course was interesting navigationally, 25 controls, had to pick route choices and avoid the green. My body needed time adjustment to get used to the heat, which it did not recieve and paid dearly. I'm not sure it's a good idea to exert yourself almost to the point of collapsing while knowing your body is just not prepared for such shock.

Orienteering race 33:49 [3] ***

Semi-final Red at Pine Hill. Not feeling so good before start, almost nausious but trying to keep my concentration on what I have to do. I have to say I've succeeded at keeping my pace under control and not screwing up majorly on the course. The heat bothered me quite a bit but since I wasn't running terribly fast, it wasn't a killer.

Final Middle course, longer with more trail running.
Since I placed third at the semi-final, I started in third to last spot, 2 minutes before Pavlina and 4 minutes before Erin. I might have ran-off to the first control a bit too fast but settled in hitting every control until I got to 6 (trail run basically). Then the heat got to me and I lost my concentration, the last half of the course was a battle, with the hills being especially miserable. I screwed up #11, thinking i was turning at the right trail but in actuality turning sooner and needlessly adding extra climb. Seeing an almost naked man on top of the hill did not add to my enjoyment of the course. The last hill was a killer and I barely made it to the finish, messing up the last control slightly. Overall result is second place but I'm not sure it is worth all the effort and pain that went into the course, maybe....

Running warm up/down 12:00 [1]

was thinking not doing a warm-up but overcame my weakness and did a nice short loop :)

After the rain had subsided, I took one of the old Eagle rock maps with a course drawn on it and headed into the muddy woods for some Oing training. The course seemed to emphasize compass work and I did focus on following the straight line as best as I could. Unfortunately, every bearing that I took was inaccurate and I ended up being either to the left or to the right of each one. Need to work on that and contouring as well.

Note

knee a bit sore.

to cure my sorrow of taking terrible bearings I headed to Whole Foods after my training and tried every single sample of food they had: whey protein shake was pretty good, feta cheese with crackers also good stuff, tofu sushi - ehh.., baby zukini - interesting, Maca powder drink that's supposed to be for menopausal women or men with prostate problems added the final touch though :)
