orienteering 46:50 [3] 4.4 km (10:39 / km)

Aus middle distance Foxes Lair Narragin. Enjoyed this apart from 2 short bearing legs on vague that I stuffed up. Rest felt ok but looking at splits looks like I was way too hesitant and cautious.

orienteering 24:41 [3] 3.14 km (7:52 / km)

Australian sprint champs. Narragin High School. I was slow to make sense of things at the start , then got going, enjoying myself and was ok through the bush controls which I had been a little worried about. I enjoyed the map change and next couple of controls . Then I foolishly decided against the simplest (left) route to my 15 seeing another competitor go right. Then as I went into the buildings again I had a sudden brain fade coupled with not aligning my map, got confused and circled a building to 'right myself'. Back in connection I completed the leg but a 90 second leg became 4 minutes! Rest was good. I can't decide if I'm more a pessimist or optimist - probably depends on the day (week/month). My optimistic side is still hopeful I can do better in sprint events and sometime do a completely clean run in an interstate event.

Tonight at Duke of York hotel, Narragin.

run 57:00 [3] 7.8 km (7:18 / km)

Gloucester '10km' loop (my watch recorded 7.8 km) starting and finishing at the Gloucester tree at Pemberton. I am slightly ashamed to say I only managed to get rung 20 on the ladder up the tree to the old fire tower some 53 m high. There were young children skipping up there. I think I would've needed a climbing coach above and below me.

Followed by a spicy vegan pie and coffee at the local bakery. Chatted there to a younger woman who was doing a year around Australia trip with her 4 year old daughter!

swim 15:00 [3]

In the Busselton fenced area "to keep larger marine animals away". This was awesome and the highlight of a long days drive from Boorara Brook - Pemberton - Busselton - Wickepin .

run 50:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:15 / km)

Exploring run around Boorara Brook.

Followed by a hike to some falls near the Boorara tree (? The Jane falls) and a visit to the Gloucester fire lookout tree - turns out I am wise with heights than I thought and only got up 20 rungs. I was a bit frustrated with myself about that!

run 36:00 [3] 6.0 km (6:00 / km)

Exploring jog around York before the long drive to Boorara Brook south east of Pemberton .

orienteering 43:00 [3] 4.41 km (9:45 / km)

Easter Day 3 - Middle distance near York. I found this enjoyable terrain . Felt ok with most of this, although couldn't find 4 a small gully in amongst rocks and overshot 6. Rest ok and was happy with my longest leg across a hillside - the vegetation boundaries were easy to read today. Well down on results today, too hesitant/ cautious probably.

orienteering 1:35:00 [3]

Easter Day 2 long. Near York.
Overly careful and slow at 1, ok with most of rest, a bit cautious and wobbly but quite pleased with how I kept contact contouring around a down hillsides and reading rocks.
Stuffed up 2 of last 3 controls - short -100m legs on green rocky hillsides. Probably lost more than 10 minutes there. That was frustrating - even after I couldn't work out attackpoints for those 2 controls.

A group tea helped ease feeling flat about 2 days suboptimal o.
