Running warm up/down 35:00 [1]

Orienteering race (Relay) 53:00 [3]

Tiomila, 5th leg. It was supposed to be night leg, but leg times were guessed so badly wrong it was already daylight. All went just as I expected, slow and boring jogging with two or three minor 15 sec mistakes. Very bad run, but I knew it in advance and there was nothing I could do about it. I wonder how many weeks or months it will take untill I can run properly again, will it happen this season or not :(

Ran with GPS, so some gps data, Runoway etc will follow.

Our team - Our best man ran first leg, but he didn't run as well as he can this time either. We were hanging around 100. place or litlle under until our 8yh leg runner, our oldest and most experienced runner, mispunched second last control. So our result was disq.

For some reasond no-one told our last leg runner we were already DQ:d, so he didn't know about it. After two kilometers he fell and hit his toe badly (possibly broke bones, don't know yet) and also hit hamsring(?) to a stone and got some sort of muscle injury too. If he'd know about DQ he would have stopped right there, but now he thought it would be better to try to get result and he limbed the course. And heard at finish about the DQ. We can only hope the the injury isn't bad and it didn't get any worse during the run. I feel sorry for this all, anything like this should never happen.

There was several teams in our two busses and noone had problems with SI this time. I ran with an older stick - my own stick was needed for longer legs - and I how it sometimes took quite long time to get a signal. The new sticks seems to be much faster than these old ones.

Our 2nd leg runner didn't had mark from last control, but they were not trying do DQ him. The just asked if he could remember which unit he used. There was one malfunctioning unit at last contol, it happily beeped and flashed but no-one got proper mark in their e-card. They had to find and replace it with functional one. I don't know if they got no mark at all or was it just a control with wrong code. Who knows. But I can imagine what was going in his head when they first told him there was no mark from last control.

About Tiomila 2007 - terrain wasn't very good, there must be lots of better terrains around there. But there was nice stadium, map was quite good, and I guess courses were well planned - I guess it's difficult to make any better courses on a terrain / map like that. What surprises me is how they could estimate times so wrong.

Our accomodaiton - military tents - were 2 km away from the event centre. All too long distance to walk many times, so I visited the arena only twice. Once during women's relay and once for my own run. But I managed to find bubo - or actually bubo somehow managed to pick me up. Stora Tuna OK had a huge success there, especially in youth class. It's not easy to find someone there, lots of people and lots of space and hiding places. I saw many OK Linné runners but none of them was hairy enought to be BorisGr.

Note

Yesterday I got a draft of our new O map. I am supposed to plan our district champs adult courses on it, long and relay. There is lots of nice areas around Orimattila, but this must be one of the very best, it looks so damn good. There will be some tricky legs of type we don't usually much see around here.

Note

Some GPS mistake data from sunday race.

Map, course, route:
http://av.nettirasia.com/reitti/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi...

Dot images, each dot is one second:
15 sec mistake at #2. I left #1 without any plan, passed the highest bare rock knoll without knowing it. Just before the green I had to guess which knoll I am on, guessed wrong and it took few seconds to figure it (+ some extra distance). It's classical example of mistake, I made something wrong 200m earlier and paid for it 200 later. So mistake was not made near #2, it happenend right after #1.

5 sec stop 20 meters before #5. You can also see nicely how I went around the boulder.

zigzag before #7, about 3-5 sec lost. I didn't bother to correct/keep my direction at the knoll with the clif.

These were recorded with Globalsat GH-615. The data seems to be just as good as Forerunner x05 data.
