Failed attempt to play Rick’s game “Find the remonumentation markers.” I had found two by accident on orienteering maps, surely I could find them on purpose with a general approximation. Nope. I’ll have to try again with the hints.

Then while the sky looked nice, it got a little ominous after dark, so hustled back to avoid getting monkey wet. We were fine, although maybe more radar checking for future big loops.

Super fun paddle orienteering hosted by Angel and Steve. I calculated poorly, and the course was 20 minutes faster than I expected. (I had Brenda and Joe to win in 2:30, they did 2:07.) I thought we would need 3:15 and thus planned to drop the two farthest 80 pointers to the NE, but as we chased hard after Cooper and Cooper James, we hit our turn around target about 20 minutes ahead of schedule, so we went for it, and then we able to get to our bailout "must be here with 30 mins" target on time as well. We didn't realize the Greens had to pick up our first c on their way back, so we worked really hard to get away from them after gaining ground by cutting through some mucky area that was less windy than their route in the main channel.

Biggest tactical error was trying to turn around in the tiny channel leaving 81 too soon. It looked like this:

Minor inconvenience: I mounted my bike map holder to the cross bar, which was too narrow, so I electrical taped to size, but then made it too big, took some off, seemed fine, but then it was too small in the field, so it slopped around a bit.

Super fun, looking forward to next year!

Lesson @ Maybury. May refine it for any others, so that it doesn't include a big stretch in nettles. Excited that this person is likely to be back...in part because she's doing paddle o.

ahr:127 max:150 weight:229lbs shoes: Long Haul Trucker

Didn't feel like it should have been hugely slower.

There's an abandoned cube three feet me where parts and monitors are accumulating; I've started to park my bike in there, let's see if anything happens.

Back to the ranch, slightly warm, but favorable winds for the first half.

I'm slightly dying that I didn't know this was happening to carve out time for it.

North American Unicycle Convention and Championships

I learned about it by seeing signs with unicycles while walking around my block. Events are that close!!! Why is our big software release at work this week, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Unrelated, current Monkey Man stats @ 4 month checkup:

27.75" / 70.5 cm: 99% percentile T A L L B O Y

Biking 58:58 intensity: (2:29 @0) + (36:44 @1) + (18:15 @2) + (1:30 @3) 15.76 mi (16.0 mph) +11m
ahr:132 max:162 weight:231lbs shoes: Long Haul Trucker

I would have bailed given the choice - monkey is a sweet little boy, but has been somewhat distraught at what should be fall asleep time, turning that into a not restful and later-than-ideal bedtime experience. But my car is in to get the a/c fixed (it's brutal right now without!), so not really a choice!

Really didn't expect to see sub 1 hr, although on full pulls the time is marginally shorter since I stop shortly after I get onto the work grounds, versus when i go around back to the overnight parking on split commutes.

Maybe there's a small chance I could be fit in 12 weeks or so. Although HR for effort seems a little bit high yet.
5 PM

Biking 1:10:46 intensity: (10 @0) + (4:29 @1) + (1:05:45 @2) + (22 @3) 15.49 mi (13.1 mph) +71m
ahr:142 max:155 shoes: Long Haul Trucker

Not too bad, until the final stretch, where I ran out of oomph.

The shop had a backlog of A/C repairs, so I could do this again tomorrow unless I do some clever work from home vs. work splitting.
