Orienteering 1:02:50 [4]

It is not a good idea do orientering the day after hard exercise. The legs work but the brain is absent. Started off my event poorly forgeting to clear and check the tag until the last minute. Usual slow self to #1 as I did not have time for a warm up. Got there OK without any trouble and started to feel confident. Contoured around as much as possible, counted off the creek crossings crossed (why do this when half way through I lost count). In retrospect I passed 10m from #2 but did not look left and continued onto #3 but it did not fit the features I was looking for. Did I go too far left? so headed up the hill. 5min+ passed What was that number on that control? Wait a minute that was my 3rd control. OK back 200m to #2. At least I know where #3 is. Cautious from then on. No problems till #7 where for some reason I go off my bearing and loose myself for 1.30min, till relocating. No further problems as I am quite cautious again. Towards #13 in open country I see a control in the distance and head for it. What wrong number! After I worked out that the creek was facing the wrong direction I turned around and there was my control 100m away.

After watching the the last half of the Eagles beating Carlton I had a bit of adrenalin to work off so I headed of on a bike ride up the coast for a nice ride up the West Coast Hwy. With not much wind around I kept up a good pace except for a few of the steeper hills where I started to feel the previous days efforts.

A light northerly helps to make this an enjoyable fast run to work. Fast enough to catch a tail - ah payback. Not quite enough left in the tank to maintain the same pace after Leederville.

Cycling (Commute) 42:40 [5] 17.6 km (24.7 kph)

A light Northerly in the morning is now a howling Northerly head wind in the evening. What not hard enough why not ride back along the top of the sand dunes where the wind is stronger. What is normally a pleasant ride keeping up with the traffic is now a hard slog. Fortunately I leave early enough to avoid the storm.

A good day for a ride. Leave the bike path at Odin street to head towarwds the western side of Herdsmans Lake. Pass 20-40 cars stationary at various traffic lights early in the ride but get slowed down closer to Subiaco with red lights. Good for variation and a smooth surface.

The northern freeway bike path is gradually becomming rougher and rougher. The couple of repair jobs have not made it a lot better

Too dark to take alternate routes. Got burned off by a young bloke passing me on a fixie. But I caught him back at a trafic light from which point I held on. Head wind most of the way.

Good morning for a ride as far as the weather goes. The body though hates mornings and is slow to start and looking for the easy way out. Unfortunately no potential draftees until Hutton street where I catch up to a young rider who is travelling 1-2km/h faster than I would have if on my own. Just perfect and he takes me all the way to Thomas street. I acknowledge his assistance which he appreciated.

A strange up and down ride, hitting some sections harder than normal and others slower. It seems to help motivation having someone to chase.
