Orienteering race 59:51 [4] 5.06 km (5.1 kph) +195m

Good steady race with two errors. The first error was approaching 4 when I crossed the saddle I knew exactly where I was then a few paces later nothing seemed to fit. Ater running round in circles I decided to head to the clear paddock to relocate. Thats when I realised my map had slipped in my hand and was no longer oriented. Straighteing the map everything fell into place. 2-3 minutes lost. This was a good leg and it challeged everyone.
I hit the circle of control 9 bang on, However my assumption that the control was on a rock had me lose 4 minutes as I talked myself into checking many of the rocks in the vicinity then coming back whre I had come from to find the control in the gully. Its a good idea to look at the control descriptions and not make any assumptions. It was interesting to see on route gadget 4 different aproaches to the last control - a sign of a good course. Overall very happy with 7th place considering the only training over the last few months consisted of bike riding. On the flat open areas of the map faster runners did make me look as if I was standing still but my orienteering has been quite good.

Orienteering race 54:53 [4] 5.0 km (5.5 kph) +255m

Course went mostly to plan with reasonable route choices for most legs. Good map reading to the circle. Slow uphill to 7. Overshot 9 and ended up in rubbish scrub. Knew where to go to the control but had to fight to get there. Took the wrong option to 12 and did not see the easier and shorter route across the bare rock (distracted by a competitor on the same leg). Not much clear thinking on the leg to 14 and took a wide route choice without realising it. Understood whre I was as soon as I saw the building on the left. The competitor in front had no idea and went right. Overall happy with run.
