Running warm up/down 21:00 [2] 2.0 km (10:30 / km) +186m 7:10 / km
shoes: Adidas Swoop 2 (green)

Warm up and stretches on the way to the start.

Orienteering race (JK Day 3) 1:42:28 [3] **** 11.4 km (8:59 / km) +379m 7:42 / km
spiked:9/21c shoes: Adidas Swoop 2 (green)

I started a bit more carefully than yesterday and did okay until number 7 where I couldn't find the control. I was slow on the latter stages of the course as I was getting quite tired. The straight line distance was 8.1km. RouteGadget

Start-1: even though I was careful, I still made a mistake. I drifted slightly East on my bearing and consequently was looking on the wrong spur. I realised when I found a rhododendron bush.
3-4: after yesterday decided to go round. Saw the marsh I was avoiding on the way and changed RC to cross it as it looked okay. Struggled to get through tree line, but once I had, found 4 okay.
4-5: played safe, took it steady on a bearing. Must have dropped downhill as when I followed the wall along it took a long time. Cut in a bit too early and lost time looking on the wrong terrace for 5.
5-6: 1.6km straight line leg. Very pleased with my RC: went near straight, over 2 large spurs to open, along it to end, over wooded hill, over road and along to open hill, cut in using veg boundary, continued on bearing but was pulled west, soon realised.
6-7: awful. Okay to path junction 150m from 7. Cut in along path up hill and couldn't find control. Returned to path to try again, but failed. Used nearby ride, by this time a train had caught me up. I observed them and somehow one of them managed to find it! Lost 14 min
9-10: bearing, but got pushed way off and came to boundary fence. Improvised and used this to get to crossing point then worked back to 10.

A better run than yesterday, but still not a good run. There were mumorings that 7(155) was miss-placed, I'd agree else the map wasn't right there. Quite a tiring course, I'm not surprised that I'm last again, which is a bit disappointing as I had a decent start.

Orienteering race (JK Day 2) 1:08:05 [3] **** 6.67 km (10:12 / km) +203m 8:52 / km
spiked:7/20c shoes: Adidas Swoop 2 (green)

Awful, dreadful run. Nothing seemed to go right and I lost motivation contemplated misspunching. RouteGadget

Start-1: wasn't careful enough ended up too low down
1-2: drifted North, caught up by 2 minute man (Duncan B)
2-3: again, too far North of control
4-5: right mess, must have gone down wrong side of hill, got mixed up with marsh and stream
5-6: I didn't find that the map matched up very well and many streams weren't on. So I took a wrong turning, ended up on flat marshy green bit SE of 6.
6-7: again, drifted North off my planned route.
7-8: awful. I took it really steady, walking along a bearing and couldn't find it. Ended up dropping down to the stream to relocate.
8-9: right mess up. Turned left up hill, should have gone right
12-13: stopped for a drink, not like I was in with a chance of not being last anyway. Slow.
20-finish: steady jog in as had done dreadful, tempted to sprint past those overtaking me.

A very poor run with a error riddled start that caused me to loose my motivation for the race and slow right down. Need to figure out what the hell happened and have a better run tomorrow.

Event: JK 2012

Running warm up/down 22:00 [2] 2.8 km (7:51 / km)
shoes: New Balance 1080

Pretty extensive warm up for me.
2 PM

Orienteering race (JK Sprint) 19:58 [4] **** 4.14 km (4:49 / km) +11m 4:46 / km
spiked:13/26c shoes: New Balance 1080

I'd hoped to do well in this and thoroughly prepared but even though I had a decent run I am quite disappointed with my position. I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong. RouteGadget

4-5: not good. Ran out East tried to turn left, met wall. Didn't plan ahead well as was intending to go across NE to 5, soon realised about bridge.
12-13: lost time trying to cut through from open, had to go round path to south, maybe not best RC.
17-18: not smooth, unsure of path layout before underpass, confused by sight of bridge, took a few seconds to realise where 18 was.
20-21: miss-counted the bushes, went in white strip, confused.
22-23: stupid, went NNW instead of NNE.
24-25: messed up paths round skatepark. Headed to northern side then had to double back to get down path. Should have kept to southern side.

Lost: 100 secs: 1 min 40 seconds.
Time without mistakes: 18:18.

I checked all my CD's, Simon didn't and reckons I lost 1 min checking them. Errors: not planning ahead, not checking control location - just number, not very smooth at controls, slipping in mud at end.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)
