Orienteering 17:40 [3] 3.5 km (5:03 / km)

CSU Mystic River Park-o. My knees still feel a bit off - no pain, but there's a hitch in my giddyup somewhere. I ran 100ft down a sidewalk a few days ago and earned a few hours of irritation in the above-the-knee quad tendon area. Surprisingly, three solid days of moving hadn't taken much of a toll - there were tweaks during the move, but none of the lingering irritation characteristic of the past few months.

So I was pretty sure that running the park-o was a horrible idea, but I've been getting more and more stir-crazy the past few weeks. I simultaneously told myself that I'd walk it if it hurt while acknowledging I'm too stupid to do that. Didn't even bother bringing my Garmin, which is a first. Went out with restraint.... and then kept that same pace the whole way through and turned in a respectable time? Not the hobbling implosion I expected. Never really pushed as evidenced in the craptacular start and finish splits - two places where overenthusiasm usually reigns supreme.

Doubly good because warming up actually got me thinking about what might be going on, instead of just waiting to heal. That latest theory is a nice and simple one - tight quads. They felt pretty weird while stretching out. It's entirely likely that I'm just reaping the benefits of a lackluster (completely lacking, actually) stretching/warmup/cooldown routine. Angling for a little PT - this has to have some kind of cause, and I'd love to actually figure it out.

Extra stoked to nearly-completely greenlight myself for Rainier in August, too. I'll hump a pack in the Fells a bit this weekend and see how things feel.

and the Breakheart extreme-o!
