Note

While we did not notice or suffer a Very Close Lightning Bolt, we were without power for 6 hours overnight. First time in nearly 20 years an outage was long enough to warrant my firing up the generator to keep the fridge cold and the water pressure charged. Learned this morning driving back from shopping that a huge tree at a house 250 m n.e. of us (ironically, owned by an arborist) evidently fell across the road and the power line. Debris and traffic sawhorses still block half a lane. An email report from Eversource suggests we and 8 other houses were affected.

Up the yellow trail (along the western cliffs) in Penwood, stopping often to soak in the view on what must be one of the finest days we'll have this summer. Clear, in the 70s, nice breeze. Ah, sweet. Did not have time to go all the way up to Lake Louise, came back down on the old road.

As usual, the iPhone GPS Tracker app dithers the signal so much that it paints the track of a drunken sailor. I wonder if it would smooth things out if I hiked with a flask of good scotch?

Hiking the Eddy Trail in the western part of Maclean. Beautiful trail through laurel, cliffs both small and hugely high, knolls, reentrants both narrow and shallow (some quite open, others steep with brook), blueberry patch at the top. Very exciting, I had no idea we had such varied topography near us. Well blazed and maintained trail.

After delivering treat to son's in-laws in Granby, wandered some southern trails in Maclean, breaking in new Asics (really nice). Very interesting contours. Noted from map that the area is a nationally designated land mark. Wonder why, but grateful that such a pleasant piece of real estate is protected.
