Adventure Racing 6:36:00 intensity: (2:40:00 @3) + (3:56:00 @4) 67.59 km (5:52 / km) +1105m 5:25 / km

Storm the Trent Haliburton with Hammer. Lots of dumping rain all day.

We started with an 8k out and back paddle, and kept with the lead boats, coming out of the water in 5th place just behind Chad.
We had a decent road run to Glebe park, and into the orienteering section.
Hammer nailed the first CP and we moved up, but trying to finesse on an imprecise map led fo a 15 minute error. We were able to start passing teams in the rest of the trek, and on to the out-and-back elite bike loop.

Chad had built up a huge lead. Hammer’s attention to nav got us back up to 4th overall I think, and we were riding well, but Hammer was feeling fatigued from a hard work week and sadly dropped out back at CP3 after just under 4 hours. We saw Bash heading out on the bike and told her, and suggested I could wait up and finish with her when she came back to CP3.

I figured my team was dnf anyway, so I waited about half an hour for Bash and tried to keep her company. Given that Bash was leading female solo she was of mixed mind, as she didn’t want any possible assistance. I either rode behind, or occasionally dashed ahead on the technical sections, and didn’t discuss navigation. Quiet roads and classic AR mucky ATV trail.

Once we hit the Sir Sam singletrack it was too crowded with mid-pack Trek riders so Bash just sent me on ahead, and I managed to pass the whole crowd and head to the finish area, mark the CPs and do the final orienteering section on my own.

Sad to lose Hammer, but despite the DNF I had a fun time. Well organized race despite complex logisitcs, and one of the best veggie options for post-race meal- and beer!

Bash won the solo female, despite all the burden and stress she’s been dealing with. Very proud of her.

Easy trot with the big guy.

Paddlng (erg) 20:00 [3]

Just a little spin. Working on torso rotation, and passing the front hand past the midline.

Strength 20:00 [2]

I load of wood hauled and split. 1 big log filled most of the wagon!

Running 55:00 [2]

2-dog run. Only needed my headlamp for half of my night run home.

Note- we've been using a lint-roller on the dogs when we bring them in, and today the roller picked one up on Logan. Yuck, but glad I got it before couch time.

Cycling 1:34:50 [3] 18.83 km (11.9 kph) +293m

Rode from Georgian Ski hill to Gally’s place, then a granny gear quadbuster up Craigleith ski hill with Gally via the mucky service road, around to Loree, and back down Camperdown to Georgian. We stopped within 10m of where I lost my compass at SSR but didn’t have time to look for it.

Cycling 46:52 [3] 12.95 km (16.6 kph) +25m

Tour around town with Bash. Temps dropped like a stone and we got hammered with rain, so turned around. Back up to 24c when we got home.
