Running long 1:49:30 [3] 20.18 km (5:26 / km) +490m 4:50 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Great long run around Blackford, Braids, Craigmillar and then the seat with Will, Ali, Tam, Georgie and Sophie. Hit MFD but not record conditions. Quite enjoyed arriving at the seat and only needing to be out for another 40 minutes. Bit too much road though to get to Craigmillar for my liking.

Run on the seat. Started out with a big group. Ended up with just Callum and I. Didn't charge my headtorch so it died very early on. However it was still very enjoyable despite this and the gale force winds.

Note

Cough had felt really bad this morning and then after setting out for the run I was still finding breathing hard for the first half hour or so but then it seemed to improve. Now I'm back its kind of returned to how it was this morning. Weird really.

Easy round the Meadows. Got a bit windy and quite low on motivation when running into it. Whole way round all I could think about was how hungry I was. Took music for the first time in forever. Not sure it helped, still mind-numbingly boring.

Sprint around Edinburgh. Pretty bad weather tbh. Mass started with Tam and Dan and soon got dropped when I couldn't cross the road. Caught back up later with a good route choice but I think I then missed the route on 12. I went down some very wet, slippery, steep stairs and under the railway but I think the others went right? Anyway fairly sure I lost a lot of time as I then saw Clem for the second time later on. Breathing was pretty bad. I get really wheezy when I inhale deeply and end up in fits of coughing every now and again. Not ideal.

EUOC long run. Stuggled to get out but I made it. Killing fields, Crags, Purko's Arete, loop of Winnie and then the big one. MFD. Lot of chat had gone into this as to whether Nixon could take the segment from me. I knew my previous time would be easily achievable so I had to go for it and simply try and beat him today. He took the underhand tactic of starting behind me so I could essentially pace him. Started strongly up to the road and was feeling okayish but then as soon as the 'flat' section arrived and I needed to kick the pace on I didn't have it in me. Nixon glided past leaving me nearly down and out. Hitting the steep bit my run turned into a power walk, hands on knees kinda stuff, but I wasn't really losing distance to the ever running Mark Nixon. However as soon as it started to level out about 50m from the finish, I was unable to get back into my stride and Mark cruised in for the win. Congratulations. A well done should also go out to Brutus for just about reaching the top first although he didn't split the time and can't download to Strava so I guess we will never know if he truly won ;) Strava has my time down as only 3 seconds off him so I think I can still hold some pride in my effort. Ill definitely be back for another go.

Running 45:52 [4] 11.12 km (4:07 / km)

Zigzagging around the meadows. Ran it fast so I could get it done quicker. Really not that enjoyable being on the meadows by oneself + ice.
