Orienteering 42:22 [4] 5.76 km (7:21 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Lagganlia tour champs in Inshriach. Pre ran the boys course which was 5.2 straight line. 5 I lost 2.30 after stopping too short and being a bit stupid not realising I hadn't crossed a ridge yet. It was enough for Phil to catch me 2 minutes and so ran the rest hard trying to get away. Missed 10 by poor compass out of 9 and ended up on a path running 90° in the wrong direction. Took a moment to realise and correct. Maybe a minute lost. Recaught Phil on the long leg but couldn't get away so he beat me by 1.30. Great fun all the same and ankle was fineish.

Orienteering 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Fun relays around lagganlia. Smashed it. Thankfully I went to lagganlia last year so I didn't have to dress up and just got to watch the others instead :D

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Hanging in Anagach. Short while in the forest other side of the road and then some running around the peg relay.

Orienteering 30:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Moor of Alvie in the morning. Pre-ran the girls sprint qualifier. Such good fun and clean, new compass worked well. Ankle was actually pretty decent. Still sore on anything uneven but whatever. Running is probably not sensible but I don't care, it's too nice to miss. Hung a couple of flags at badaguish in the afternoon and ran the course as well. Slightly less fun but still good.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 7.0 km (8:34 / km)

Ankle was so much better today, it probably wasnt as bad as I thought it was. Tried some slow jogs at the start and decided I could probably follow one of the slower athletes for some of the course. Did that and it still felt ok so I had a go at a race thing up a couple of hills and it was ok with being steady on the downs. Decided I could run the odds and evens relay too and it went well. It think as soon as I get on to something not so smooth and soft underfoot as Roseisle it might be a bit more difficult to run so I'll see at Moor of Alvie tomorrow.

Note
(injured)

Not done anything today. Ankle is pretty badly swollen still. I've never been injured before and I've no real idea how long it will last or what I should be doing. Basically just iced it and not run. Did a bit of walking around Loch Vaa and I just about kept up with the group. Really quite irritated that I won't be able to do anything at Roseisle tomorrow either. It better be good for the Scottish...

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2] 4.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Lagganlia day 1. Checked some controls and hung 1 on Uath Lochan before following an athlete around 2 courses. Then did 1 and a half legs of a star relay before I twisted my ankle fairly badly. Had to sit out the rest of the day and its fairly swollen. Iced and will hopefully be better tomorrow... Also a minor panic when I lost my 2 day old compass.. found it mind so it's fine Dad I promise...

Note
(rest day)

Traveling from Borås to Aviemore in a day. So, so tired. Think I got 2 hours sleep last night after the party...

Orienteering race 58:33 [4] 9.0 km (6:30 / km)

Oringen day 5, chasing start. Straight line 7km. Again didn't start Garmin so guess actual distance. Started in 7th with a 17 minute gap behind (what.) and a man 11 secs in front and a few more a couple of minutes more. Fast out the start to catch my 11 sec man. Caught him halfway up the hill to 1. Both too low and overshot so bounced back off the path beyond it. Lost 30 seconds. Went fairly straight on the long leg to 2. Looking back there was a better looking path route mainly because it had much less climb. But I still got fastest split so mine can't have been bad ;). Miss on 5. Only a 100m leg but I was way to high and ended up out on the path. Lost 1 minute. Rest of the course I've smashed it. Pretty much clean on all except 10 where I took a poor route losing 15 secs. Came back 4th overall so gained 3 places and the fastest time on the day! Buzzing aha, I can still orienteer well sometimes. Don't get a prize though, only stage wins for stages 1-4 do, gutted.http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/en/d...

Note

Overall I did enjoy the week. It did feel good to actually be placed high up despite knowing there's a whole class of elite above you but still. I've bought a new thumb compass which is hopefully better than the one I've borrowed from Louise this week (Silva Race Jet 360 or something). Test it out over the next fortnight in Scotland!

Orienteering race 31:41 [4] 4.53 km (7:00 / km)

Oringen day 4, middle distance. Straight line 3.6km. Worst run so far! Started well, smashed 1 & 2. But iffy on 3. Good to 4,5 & 6. 7 pretty bad. Don't think I allowed my compass to settle and as a result wasn't running the direction I thought. Got towards the circle and couldn't work out what was going on. Ended up falling upon it by chance. Lost 1.30. So frustrated I just ran out out of it in the direction of an elephant tracks I saw. When I eventually checked the compass I was running 90° the wrong way. As a result I looped round to 8 through 6 nd 5 almost. Found it fine just an awful route with straight obviously being best. Lost 2 minutes. Hacked through some green to 9 and came out way too low. Lost 30 secs. Very hestitant on 10 and 11 , another minute gone. Smashed the last 3. Finished 12th and a bit disappointed.

Orienteering race 57:07 [4] 8.23 km (6:56 / km)

Oringen day 3. Straight line 6.7. Best run so far! Miss on 4. Cut into the green too early, I should have continued into the open before cutting in. Messed about for a bit before I stopped and thought. Lost 3 minutes. Slight miss on 6. Poor direction and ended up looping around to the right. Quite a few small missed at the end because I was trying to run too hard but no more than 15 seconds each. Finished in 5th place. No winsplits as the link goes to day 4's instead.

Note
(rest day)

Rest day. Tired, it was a late night... Plenty of walking so we could watch the elite sprint.

Monday Jul 20, 2015 #

Orienteering race 1:02:54 [4] 8.5 km (7:24 / km)

Oringen day 2. Straight line 6.9km. Forgot to start my Garmin so I guessed the actual distance. Better run. Slight error on 1, but vague around the circle. Bad on 5. Had a decent route but executed badly. Don't know why but I cut across the marsh and so never found the path in the open and ended up thrashing through some rubbish to get through. Lost 2.30. Slight miss on 7, too far right. Good on the long leg to 11 as well. Finished in 6th place.http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/en/d...

Sunday Jul 19, 2015 #

Orienteering race 1:09:31 [4] 9.09 km (7:39 / km)

Oringen day 1. 7.0km straight line. Started off well on 1,2 & 3. Long leg on 4 I was hopless. Turns out I found a large crossing point with tapes and stuff over a marsh that wasn't marked on the map. It confused me no end as the only marked point was miles away. Ended up relocating off an OOB area. Even then I wasn't completely sure where I was and missed the control around the circle, finding 5 first. Lost 6 minutes. Missed 8 as well losing 2 minutes by getting dragged off line by nice looking elephant tracks. Slow into 10 and 11 as well. Finished in 11th and could easily have won I feel. http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/en/d...

Note

Oh yeah I'm running H20 not H20E. Don't ask why.

Tired. Slept quite a lot.

Orienteering 52:16 [3] 5.65 km (9:15 / km)

Oringen training on Hestra-Ekås. Better. Not much though.

Orienteering 1:18:15 [4] 8.56 km (9:08 / km)

Training race on the nicest training area Holmåsa. Ran the open 9 course (the longest) and 7.1km straight line so similar to my races for the rest of the week. Generally navigated okayish with the obligatory couple of mistakes. Just reall6 quite slow. Absolutely dead towards the finish where I found Alex who'd given up on the course earlier on.

Thursday Jul 16, 2015 #

Orienteering 1:06:42 [3] 7.14 km (9:21 / km)

O-Ringen training at Rydboholm. Ran the set black course (straight line 5.7). Got lost several times. Think I've completely forgotten how to orienteer in technical terrain. Wasn't helped by the fact that a large area of the forest was recently felled and so the map didn't match at all in places. Other than this I enjoyed myself. Plenty of swimming for the rest of the day with Louise and later on Beth.

Note

WIFI at the campsite (thank God). Only positive point compared to the campsite last year, we're sleeping on gravel. I think an airbed will be a good investment. Anyway should be able to update regularly so look forward to that! (I'm sure you will)

Cycling 3:00:00 [2]

Went on a ride with some friends (yes I know friends wow). Failed to start my garmin after several lengthy stops so I stopped trying to use it therefore no distance but it wont be as far as you should go in 3 hours

Running 47:16 [3] 8.94 km (5:17 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Again harriers. Again no one in my group there (well one was but he's injured). So yet again I went by myself. Maybe they all give up over summer or something I don't know. Went in the opposite direction towards honley woods. Tried to go through a field but a herd of angry cows ran at me and so I retreated swiftly to behind the stile. Managed to outsmart the beasts and looped around in the adjacent field instead. Me 1-0 cows.. probably. Got lost again and ended up running boringly down a road back to the club building.

Running 1:14:13 [3] 13.29 km (5:35 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Went to harriers again. Turns out it was the club 10k today which I didn't know about so everyone in my running group was doing it so I ran by myself. Don't really know where I went but I'll link the Garmin connect page (or not). Got lost a couple of times and ran up castle hill so plenty of climb. Some of the paths where ridiculously overgrown which made running in places quite hard. Also had my right shoe and louises left. Oops. Anyway I much prefer these runs where I don't know where I'm going, adds some interest.

Orienteering race 35:38 [4] 7.72 km (4:37 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Long open at the Yvette Baker trophy event. Decent run, lost maybe 1.30 through mistakes. Gave Chris McCartney a nice tow round from about 9 (you can see all his splits suddenly become top 3's). Anyway took a comfortable win. Shame SYO juniors couldn't do the same (11th I think).
