Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Orienteering race 1:12:13 [4] 10.82 km (6:40 / km)

British Night Champs 2015, M20, 4th. Middleton Park. Decent run. No major mistakes just minor things where I've lost half a minute occasionally. Anyway slightly annoyingly I'm just off Joe and Oli, 40 secs off Joe in 2nd. But pretty pleased that I'm that close. Good effort from AP.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)

2km 20 mins out to Honley Moor.
2km 10 mins back.
I was the only one? sorry what?

Running hills 20:00 [5] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

200m effort, 200m recovery; 300m effort, 300m recovery X 4. By myself with Alywn there. Bit odd really.

Orienteering 56:11 [3] 5.3 km (10:36 / km)

Night event at Lyn Valley? Anyway just practice before Saturday. Went alright, just an error on 2 where I dropped far too early but I'm putting that down to not being able to judge distance well at night. Also running through the terrain I'mnot good at. Just not confident enough at night.

Running 1:30:00 [3] 16.8 km (5:21 / km)

I've actually gone for a run. Honley wood route. Out the fields at the back of the house. Over to upperthong, then netherthong, up to oldfield and across more fields to honley wood. Across the top and down past the reservoir into meltham. Then pretty much 2 miles of constant uphill to the top road above the Huntsman. Down and right at the cross road past digley car park and back through the woods. Took dads Garmin so time/distance is accurate. Ok it actually took 1 hour 29 minutes and 59 seconds if you want to be picky.

Orienteering race 57:14 [4] 12.0 km (4:46 / km)

Halifax urban. Straight line about 8.5km. Didn't feel it at all. No motivation and was freezing the whole way around. Barely warmed up as I wanted to try and finish before it rained. Navigationally pretty useless. Overshot paths alleyways and then ran up a parallel road at one point through just not thinking. Tam comfortably beat me

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

Run out to honley centre and then two loops of the circuit.
Warm down 5 minutes back.

Running intervals 25:00 [5] 5.2 km (4:48 / km)

4 x 1km loops. Honley centre so was up, down, up, down all the way. 400m recovery mostly downhill.

Running 30:00 [3] 7.0 km (4:17 / km)

Run home from harriers as dad didn't fancy giving me a lift back. Boring straight up the road along the valley only made interesting by listening to the football on radio.

Orienteering race 1:16:26 [4] 10.9 km (7:01 / km)

Midland champs, Abraham's Valley, Cannock Chase. Navigationally I was fine(ish). Just for about half the course my calves felt super tight and forced me to actually stop and rest them. Eventually they felt better and towards the end I felt really quite good. Anyway, legs were sore in the evening again. 3rd M20E but Harrison beat me as well. Comfortably.

Thursday Feb 12, 2015 #

Running warm up/down 35:00 [3] 6.5 km (5:23 / km)

3.5km warm up, usual loop.
3km warm down, ditto

Running intervals 20:00 [5] 4.2 km (4:46 / km)

6 x 500m around Gyn (?) Lane. 200m recovery

Note

2 hours of tennis. Heartbreak. Lost doubles 7-5 after my partner missed a sitter to take it to a tiebreak. Won singles 6-2 having been bad-mouthed by my opponent who said. "He's not physically strong enough to get it over the service line!" as he was 5-2 down. I was then told as though I looked like I'd just come out of primary school and then asked if I wanted to 'take it outside dickhead'. Anyway had to play a tiebreak shootout again and sadly I was played terribly and we lost it 10-5. Looks like the weekend break to Bolton is off :-(
This is going down on my list of sporting regrets along with the JHI relays run last year.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

3km, 15 mins to osprey close and back

Intervals / hills 30:00 [5] 5.25 km (5:43 / km)

1.5km effort, 1 min recovery. 3 x 300m, 150m rest, 200m, 1 min rest. 1.5km effort. Never really got my legs/arms warmed up. Freezing night.

Running 30:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

short and sweet around digley. Started off quite stiff but loosened up

Sunday Feb 8, 2015 #

Running (Warm up/down) 20:00 [3] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)

Run to the start. Took longer than I had expected and caused me to arrive with only 1 minute to spare.

Orienteering race 1:24:39 [4] 11.9 km (7:07 / km)

Southern championships 2015. Knew it was a long way and so started pretty steady. Small slip at 4 where I couldn't find the right depression in a group of holes. Straight to 5 and got stuck in some rubbish and wasn't sure where I was when I got to the slope and so hesitant into it. Intended to follow the slope on 8 but instead got pushed down into the valley by vegetation and so had to regain all the height I'd lost. Even then going into the control didn't really know where I was and got lucky coming across a pond near to the control. Got very confused at 9 and ended up below it whem I'd relocated. 14 was just a mess. The brambles where much worse than what they seemed on the map and I got pushed miles off and ran in lines back and forth until I saw it. Not good. The rest was basically clean. Overall maybe 4 minutes lost. Decent result. 7 behind Aidan who'd won and 4th 18/20 I think. Fairly happy really

Running (Warm up/down) 10:00 [3]

Running about with / trying to find Julie.

Orienteering 20:18 [4] 3.1 km (6:33 / km)

The forest sprint on the Saturday. Can't remember the name of the area. Anyway, started 2 minutes behind Matt F and 1 behind Ali T. Not particularly hard just with some brutal hills at the start. Right calf awfully tight after them. Fairly clean all the way except 6 where I'd turned off the path too soon and too high up. Maybe 20 secs lost. Then the last control. Could see Ali in front of me going down the hill into the penultimate one and just ran straight out of it without looking and in the wrong direction. Stuck in some horrible green stuff and emerged by the finish punch and so had to do the run in twice. Lost 30 seconds which was enough for Ali M to beat me by 2 secs and Nathan to beat me by ~30 secs. Just ahead of Ali T though. Fairly enjoyable just very sore calf at the finish. Hopefully be ok tomorrow

Flexibility 10:00 [1]

After showering in the travel lodge. Mainly concentrated on that right calf.

Running 30:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)

3 km warm up, usual route around honley.
2km warm down, from station road to the Texaco garage and back.

Running (tempo) 15:00 [5] 3.5 km (4:17 / km)

~2 mile tempo. Usual one to the second zebra crossing and back

Intervals / hills 10:00 [5] 0.8 km (12:30 / km)

4 x 200m hills up station road. 200m recoveries.

Flexibility 20:00 [1]

Going to start logging this and attempt to do some most nights of the week as I know I'm quite stiff. 10 minutes after the warm up and 10 afterwards while I waited for dad

Tuesday Feb 3, 2015 #

Running (Warm up/down) 25:00 [3] 4.0 km (6:15 / km)

Warm up, 3km run out to Honley library and two laps. 15mins.
Warm down, slow 1km run back. 10 mins.

Intervals / hills 20:00 [5] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

2 x 2000m honley library. About half way round the second 2km my left calf started feeling quite sore. Had felt like I'd done something before but couldn't decide whether it was just bad cramp or something else. (I don't know I've never had a muscle injury before!) So stopped after 4km instead of doing 1 more Km. Rolling and stretching and it seemed to ease off on the way home.
