Long Valley North & South - BAOC Military Challenge
Surprised how easy this was physically as it was by far the longest course/run for many years. Thought I could do 90mins if I had a good techinical race, but 80 mins with a clean run at steady pace is quite a shock.
Caught 3 mins on Mikhail by 6.
8. 1.15 - Was over confident leading M.
11. Recaught M.
14. -1.45 RC 30s then missed reentrant, good leg several possible RCs.
15. -25s saw reentrant was not confident enough.
18. -15s hesitant, might have been quicker to go down, another good leg.
19. -30s should have gone down immediately, think I was too cold from 5min rain shower.
20. -2.30 never looked at compass, made hills fit and then relocated 250m from where I expected. At this stage I was 5mins behind M and caught him at 22 (his big error).
Clean 20-29.
Run In - -30s got cramp in calf and jogged walked to avoid pulling the muscle.
Challenging course, very comfortable on North (1.15) but left brain behind on South (5.30), plus 30s run in.
Guess the last excuse for not running longer courses has been blown out of the water, clearly I can more than cope.
Just seen splits, equal 2nd quickest over last 20mins of race beating 2/3 top 100 runners, moved from 11th to 6th, sub 7min/k over 9k on LVN.
Running warm up/down 8:00 [2]
Glad I changed my mind at the start and changed short sleeved top for Helly.
