Orienteering 54:00 [4] 6.1 km (8:51 / km) +170m 7:46 / km

Mytchett Blue Course from 2 weeks ago, at race pace
Lost around 3 mins. Compared with Ian D, was 1.15 down at 1/3 distance, still 1.15 down at 2/3 and pulled back to 30s by end. Took a 60s breather on 1k track run in middle third (running above THR!).
Feel at last I'm getting back to a level of running fitness, of a few years ago. Running gait, stride length and strength all coming on

Warm Up 20:00 [2]

Very long warm up as ankles & knees were not fully recovered from Saturdays long run. Paid off, but will take a few days to recover from both efforts.

Sunday Oct 25, 2020 #

Note

R achilies OK. Doubt it would have been after 16.5k instead of shortened 10.3k. Good day yesterday and learned a lot of positives in gorgeous Mytchett.

1.20 walk at Congo to find 2 of 3 items that dropped out of pack. Found them at 6th attempt just 20m from where I stopped and found pack open.

Orienteering 2:13:00 [2] 12.1 km (11:00 / km) +390m 9:28 / km

OMM replacement, ran with 5kg race weight pack. Congo, Mytchett E, then W, back then to E. Less than 2min errors. Stopped watch when swopping maps & rearranging pack. HR b/w 125 & 135.
Planned 16.5k & 64c, did 10.3k & 40c.
Very surprised that running with pack seemed normal if slower. Only walked where it was safer or steep as normal. Bodes well.
Fine for 75 min, at 105 min R shin hurt & achilies hurt, so followed course to water point & cutbout Windmill loop.

Walking 1:20:00 [1] 9.0 km (8:53 / km) +135m 8:16 / km

Calf has been sore and planned to rest this week until I had to walk three return trips to work today instead the usual speedy one. Fast daily walking with hills has definitely been useful base training and has kept hamstrings & calves nicely stretched.

Orienteering race 54:29 [3] 5.4 km (10:05 / km) +250m 8:12 / km
ahr:152 max:162

Blean Wood - Short Blue - 54.29 mispunched 1!
1. Start kite was taped for 90m but not on desc sheet. I punched formline bank foot control on the route to a shallow niche 90m further on.
1 to 11 - perfect!
12. 4 mins (ouch), only leg I had no exact plan for, should have set compass as I was hitting everything.
13. 40s lost sense of direction after 12.
13 to finish, perfect bar 20s stop for laces.
Perhaps 5s on being high on a control & slightly high going to finish, otherwise perfect. Physically my sort of area and kept pace with Pete & Ian, and took 30s plus out of them on a few legs.

Running 27:00 [3] 3.5 km (7:43 / km) +140m 6:26 / km

Apres funeral, no get together, so did next best thing to wind down.
Knees not feeling great. Not eaten well for a few days, possibly related.

Note

An hours walk, notable for the crystal clear view of London from Staples Lane, could see buildings clearly that I thought impossible to see.

Orienteering race 51:48 [4] 5.2 km (9:58 / km) +80m 9:15 / km
ahr:150 max:162

SO Rewell Quarry - Blue (longest) DSQ wrong 8.
Thought I was moving well, but even without errors I was off the pace I hoped to be.
My printed descriptions were so faint I rarely bothered as it meant stopping.
4. 30s rather shaky.
8. 90s and seemed to be at west end of a hill and none on map nearby? DSQ
9. 4min plus, had a number of gos from "8", little fitted? Started from wrong 8?
11. 15s cut in on wrong ride.
20. 75s, couldn't relocate was close to control.
24. 75s went past it thinking it was too early!
27. 30s Ad-lib technique.

Have done much worse of late, 8 still a mystery that routegadget & GPS might solve.

Oh dear, looks as though I punched 3 also on the W side of a hill 60m S, no wonder the map leaving it didn't make sense!! When I saw it the second time it must have the correct 8.

Running 37:57 [3] 5.25 km (7:14 / km) +240m 5:53 / km
ahr:142 max:164

Chantries - fun undulating terrain run, keeping moving rather than tackling steepest slopes. Moving well, with good balance and stride length on the rooty sloping paths. O shoes feel better for injuries as well increasing terrain confidence.

Cycling 48:30 [3] 14.2 mi (3:25 / mi) +180m 3:17 / mi
ahr:135 max:154 shoes: TCR

E Clandon-Ripley-W Clandon loop
4 weeks (2nd in 7) since last ride and legs were good. Running and walking uphills has kept them strong. Road closed/flooded by HMP apart from verge.Autumnal with debris covering the bike lane.
